It might not stop them being deported but transferring ownership documents to a citizen can help prevent all your assets from being seized. You also may need to set up guardianship for children or other dependents. Things people might have put off but are scrambling to get done now.

Also for lgbtq folx, until the last decade most would have to set up a ton of legal documents to guarantee things that married couples just get, like parental and property rights. If obergefell falls then queer couples will need to start doing that again.

Offering free notary services to people in these situations is a small gesture, but the usual fees might be a bigger hurdle for someone who is low income, (which undocumented immigrants and lgbtq folx are more likely to be), especially if there are a lot of documents.

So luckily it’s pretty easy! You can search for “power of attorney form template” and there will be a host out there (for free!) that you can tailor to your exact needs! Start there and when it’s ready I will stamp it (if you live in WA state). If not we will find you someone to stamp it!!

It depends! Lots of official documents require a notary to witness your signature as well as sign the document as well. This includes passport applications, marriage license applications, wills, powers of attorney, certain deeds, etc!

All sorts of documents may require a notary signature (it will say on the doc)! Some examples include wills, certain deeds, power of attorney, passport applications, and marriage license applications! The last three may be the most pressing for some right now!

My bond, coursework, and stamp totaled around $60 in Illinois. It's more expensive if you want to be able to do remote notarization with special software as that needs a bigger Bond

Yes, you need a Surety Bond worth $10,000 in the state of Washington, but this bond only cost me $45 to get!

If you're employed, many employers will cover the cost of the application, the bond, and the stamp/book!

In case anyone needs to know, in Illinois they're not allowed to charge more than a dollar per Notarial Act. So if you need multiple pages of a document notarized they can't charge more than a dollar for each notarization

Everyone’s needs are different. Right now, people are trying to work on getting power of attorney documents, adding family members to deeds, applying for passports and marriage licenses. All these documents require notarization.
