On this Day of Remembrance, we honor the 120,000 Japanese Americans unjustly imprisoned during WWII because of their heritage. Their resilience remind us to never forget the lessons of history. We will continue to fight for justice, equality, and civil rights for all.

We must not let the MAGA fascists occupying DC drag us back to America's dark history of hatred, xenophobia & oppression.

Several months prior to Malkin's birth, her parents immigrated to the United States on an employer-sponsored visa.
Met a grandmother, a farmer, who spent her whole life in one place except, as she recounted, when she was forced into an encampment in another state. Local farmers cared for their Japanese American neighbors' land and prepped their house for their homecoming, stocking the kitchen.
Gardena CA- land taken as it was ‘abandoned’. My friend who is Japanese & raised there recounted what his mother & her friends dealt with.
I’m glad that your friend had a relatively better experience.
The two situations I shared are among many I have learned about from others whose families and lives were personally touched.
I only recently learned of this organization:

In September 1907 Vancouver had anti-asian riots. Similar riots occurred in Bellingham,WA and San Fran (May 1907).
In Vancouver 9000 rioters smashed windows and destroyed the shops and homes of Asian Canadians in Vancouver.
Can't describe how much it hurts to know there's nothing we can do to stop the latest persecutions. Yes, I'm calling, donating, attending meetings.

So Hegseth is going to fire top leadership at the Pentagon as early as next week. We need to mobilize and Occupy DC and state capitols.
Farmer who helped the interned during WWII
Robert Emmett Fletcher Jr., an American agricultural inspector, quit his job to care for the fruit farms of Japanese families during World War II, after many Japanese Americans were forcibly sent to concentration camps. A true patriot.
Read about the 442nd Infantry.
I hope to do better next year (if law then allows).
It is the one you see at the highway curve going towards Cobble Hill
None of the families were given their properties, money or businesses back
It was much less widespread or severe (and much less remembered), but thousands of German pacifists were imprisoned during WWI as well. My great-grandfather, a Mennonite pastor, spent a good part of his ministry during those years visiting and encouraging CO boys in prison.

Seems there's always a predator armed with mindless hordes to carry out the latest version of old cruelties.
Education is so important, and we are repeating history because of Republicans' war on education.
For whatever reason. My grandfather still volunteered for infantry.
Looking back and knowing where we are, if I could go back in time, I’d tell them all to say “fuck off” let the rednecks die for this land.
Attempted genocide of Native American population was only the beginning. Then came forcing African people to come & be slaves.
These make me ashamed to be an American citizen 😪

My parents were incarcerated during WW2 for being Japanese.
We are well on the way to a dictatorship here in the US and there’s no one coming to help.
It’s only we, the people.
Remember when they brought over thousands of Chinese men to work on the railroads and then, when the railroads were almost done, they passed laws restricting the men from then bringing their wives and families over?
The US is going back to it's roots.
They learned nothing.
I believe the answer is no.
Just in case you think that people will be held criminally responsible for what's happening now at Guantanamo Bay.

America doesn't do "the Past" unless it's glorious, or glorified.
All countries do this, but I have spoken with quite a few of educated Americans who live here in Canada, and none knew about Tulsa...
It documents the interment camp at Manzanar, CA. The photography is by the great photographer Ansel Adams.
Adams donated all the negatives to the Library of Congress. Made available for anyone/all who wish to acknowledge.

As a kid I heard Disneyland was built on land taken from Japanese in internment camps. Hmm maybe a rumor???
Among their lies are things like "at least fascists get things done." They don't. They only tear things apart.
Now owned by Russia
Maybe it’s karma
i can't help think that a part of the japanese internment was to help protect them from the america we are seeing right no.
one need only remember the america of the early 1800's
but also the americans that support trump
