Diesel Daves are not happy about this 😡. Seriously, it's great news. It means cleaner air for all of us and less fossil garbage burned. Those BEV numbers will just keep on rising!

A better question is why will they remain available new after non hybrids are banned. The answer is transition. A full hybrid drives much like an EV so gets people on that journey. Not ideal but politics never is.

Yes but the point is by familiarising them with part of the EV driving experience (electric traction with good instant acceleration), getting them to move to proper EVs is a little easier. People find change hard and are nervous.

The nail on the head there is the only thing.......people find change difficult. That's the only thing. Hybrid is a delay tactic and a box ticking.

Probably rural people. I have relatives who live several miles from the nearest public charger. Couldn't get affordable home charger until recently. So, hybrid. Next time, an EV, but it wasn't a viable option the last time they were in market for a car, and there is no transit around there.

I live rural, couldn't afford a charger at home for 6 months when I first got an EV. Had to drive 6 miles to get to a charger.

Right, we don't have one at home either and have an EV, though not quite the same as there are several in walking distance.

Good chance the grid would zonk out if everyone in their area charged at once though. Lotta upgrades/renewables deployment needed. All coming, but needs to be faster.

When did you get your last car? Got a home charger fitted 2 years ago and it cost me 600€ after government grant.

About 40% of homes in the UK can’t park off road. In urban areas it’s a higher %. There is no easily accessible cheap charging for a lot of these people. A lot of flats don’t have a parking space allocated.

It’s why a colleague of mine has said he doesn’t want to buy a BEV but feels more secure with a hybrid.

But that's my point! Hybrids are completely pointless. And plenty of people have EVs who don't have off-street parking.

I agree, but the reality is that people still feel uneasy about taking the plunge. I hope that people with PHEVs will take the time to charge them and realise it is possible to live with a BEV.

Some people are not ready to jump to full EV. The one I know don’t even charge their plug hybrid anymore, making their vehicles more expensive to run than a full diesel/petrol car 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hope they invest their enormous wealth in sustainable energy and continue in business plus provide smaller quantities of oil for medical use and recyclable plastics etc. just not fuels.

Why do people claim they are unsustainable? Lithium resources are not an issue in short, medium and possibly long term.
