Mice, almost certainly 😏 you don't ever see them, there's just zero germination. I never sow peas (or beans, or sweetcorn) direct outside - always raise in pots then transplant outside at 15cm tall 😊

Nope not usually - occasionally spot shoots nipped off if they get to that stage, and if the mice get into the greenhouse you will see compost in pots disturbed but if it's seeds outside you don't see anything 🙄

That's very weird. How long ago did you plant them? Could there be an underground pest like gophers, or could birds or mice have gotten them? Was it too cold or wet? Are the peas still there, just not sprouting?

Have you considered starting them inside in deep trays or a series of paper tubes? Bean/seed innoculant is also helpful.

I'm gutted for you. I'm up north and we have such a short growing season I start pretty much everything in the greenhouse regardless of what the general advice is. Is it worth you starting some in pots and then planting out?

Maybe the weather was too cold so far? (I planted a bunch of pumpkin seeds a few weeks ago. NONE of them germinated. Until lastnight! I'm not saying your peas are going to germinate. But they might, lol.)

We have clay/silt which turns rock hard under a little sun. Mice and slugs usually do for any open seeded peas etc though. I always close the beds up with enviromesh now, and build the beds up by deep bedding the geese and once a year recharging the soil to stop it being so clay like.

I had nasturtiums seeds in the oven keeping them warm and wet with the pilot light. I forgot about them and turned on the oven... crispy seeds 🙄🤭
Starting new garden after moving, left my established garden in old house. All perennials and reseeding plants
