Yes, go to the websites of your neighboring counties and sign up for e-library cards with them. I was able to get 3 of my neighboring counties’ e-library cards. If you visit family out of state, you can use their address to get a card at their local library too.

Libby is an app. You download it, then link (in the app) to your library via you library card (or account). You can link to multiple libraries. Then you can check out digital and audio books. For free! Libby provides reading and listening functionality. It’s awesome.

Hmm, depends. In the US, some states have statewide e-collections through Libby so it doesn't matter where in the state you live. But many individual library systems pay for their standalone collections, and local or county residency is required.

If you want, you can apply for a Chicago Public Library e-card just with a name and a zip code. Once you have that, you can have a Libby account. This applies to a bunch of other cities, but I know for sure a Chicago library card is super easy to get.

That's so interesting because the smaller city I lived in had hoopla but the large city I live in now only has Libby! I just find the wait times on Libby are brutal and it's nice to just have instant access on hoopla, even though the library of hoopla items is smaller

Usually you can use your state library but also you can apply to the Queer Liberation Library. They have lots of stuff avail as well! You may also look into libraries in major cities, usually you can get a “card” to use them on Libby.

If you are close to a major city with a large library system, they often let folks from surrounding areas get library cards even if you don’t live in the city. The big libraries have much larger Libby catalogs so you can get more books faster!

Check to see if your library system has reciprocal agreements with other ones in your area. I have two additional cards for neighboring counties, and it's glorious. If you watch movies on Kanopy, you can get extra monthly credits there, too!

Libby is life. I gave up my library of over 5000 volumes in order to live nomadically and chase weather that helps my mobility and quality of life. I use Libby now and occasionally peruse used bookstores but I live in less than 200 square feet with no external storage so space is at a premium.
