Two years ago I read my first Xmas mystery anthology due to Otto Penzler and the Mysterious Bookshop.
I was hooked by the end of the book.
NOW I FIND IT ON BSKY!

one of my favorite weekend things, visiting a bookstore, purchasing books/comfort food/drinks/wine. getting home, closing the curtains & consuming my precious purchases. thank you for existing. sanity is found in places like these. 🧡
Yes......loaf of fresh thick crusty bread w/moist almost doughy inside, schmear on kerrygold butter, bottle of wine my budget could afford after the book purchase. My secret indulgence. 🤭
I am serious reader. I am old now, so my library *would* be large.
My own minority sentiment is to pass on & share almost every book that I’ve read (…saving only very special volumes & my large format art books.) Fran Leibowitz would hate me, if she only knew this.
There are some on eBay, not mine but that’s where I sell. Ne is a hardcover for $11. That’s a good book! Thanks for not buying on Amazon. Ebay is 100% third party sellers, many very small businesses like mine.
We recently moved from the NYC Metro area (lived in Bergen County NJ) after growing up there. We’re now 69 and 70 living in Florida (not by choice. Long story. Don’t ask! 🙄) But we spent many, many hours over the years browsing and buying at the Mysterious Bookshop! Glad to see them here on Bluesky!

I miss the old antiquarian booksellers. Yes, there are a couple good ones online, but there's nothing like browsing shelves, going thru boxes, handling the books in person. I wouĺd love this store.
I am going to check out Ross Thomas. Let me recommend the Ellie Haskell series by Dorothy Cannell. Split-side funny mysteries in England (although for most of her adult life she lived in Peoria, Illinois).
I hope you realize that that ‘smell’ is paper mold, so don’t walk in and take that big whiff like you would in a bakery…
Come to think on it, a lot of the smell in bakeries is mold as well - yeast mold.
Forget I brought any of this up; I’ll shut up now and go away.
It's heaven just looking at this devine picture-books, books, & more books everywhere-this is how I grew up-beyond reading-just seeing them, breathing them into my being, reveling in their smell, look & feel. My first job as a 16-year-old was in the Lower Mills branch of the Boston Public Library.
Expanding your mind in these trying times is self-care. It is more critical than ever to learn from our past and to introduce to yourself new cultures and concepts. Learning dispels irrational fears and fear of what is different.
I am suddenly reminded of being a teenager and going to this little hole-in-the-wall bookstore in the next town over from mine, and spending all of my available pocket change on used Raven House Mysteries.
Well the mystery to your location was barely a mystery at all! I didn’t even get the chance to wander about the town asking random strangers with help on that side quest
Would be nice if there was a subscription box or reccomendation service for specific types of books, such as cozy mystery, Edgar award winners, or even a better search on the website. The website isn't great at navagating subcategories. Please consider revamping it.
The US should be a reliable ally, but under the Democrats, we've seen anything but reliability. Their decisions have made the world more dangerous for Israelis.

Deeply comforting to see my local bookstore on Bluesky💘
Well…found another reason anyway
*(the usual irony - of doing just that, for fun.)
you need a book ladder to upgrade tho 😂

Author - Erskine Caldwell
Title - Tobacco Road
Made into a movie in 1940
Great movie if you like old movies of that era

They are (I believe) an independent second hand seller.
I ate all the veal. Stop counting the cards, Paul. They're onto us.
[Your business looks amazing. Would love to visit someday.]
Thank you
