Strange New Worlds turn the Gorn into disposable Xenomorphs when their first episode was literally about de-escalation and mercy. Then they turn eugenics into, like, an oppressed ideology. LD and Prodigy are def Star Trekky, but SNW is just as backwards and anti-utopian as Picard.

Why not all of the above? To me that's the greatness of the best Trek. The new stuff mostly seems to abandon utopian idealism (humans can evolve and be better!) and social commentary for bad soap opera and tired post-9/11 nihilism. Their world is just too small and inward-turned.

they didn't even do a single thing that actually called for S31. Picard and Crusher did more extreme black ops in "Chain of Command."

The first two seasons of Discovery are good, in fact the first season is even great. It definitely captures the spirit of star trek by using a dark tone to deconstruct and then re-assert it. Unfortunately after that, new Trek just goes conservative more often than not.

Star Trek has always, always been about reflecting real world problem. The catch is that the humans and their friends are supposed to model the good behavior you’re talking about, and they’re supposed to spread their love like perfect paragons among the savage religious capitalist aliens.

weirdly enough this is actually something I really like about season 1 of Discovery and season 3 of Enterprise. both of them are grim and unpleasant WAR TIME!! seasons, but! both of them conclude with "hey, the way to actually get out of this war is cooperation and alliance, not more fighting"
