My take on this is that people can buy amazing games for less than $5 (or even play for free!) but still pay $90 to play Diablo IV a few days earlier.
I keep saying that we're still too stuck on a perception on gaming from the 90s/2000s. Consoles & AAAs are luxury items for a niche of older gamers.

Xbox said this week it will begin selling games at $80. For all but the top products, this price hike may prove to be a critical mistake. Why would people pay $80 for a decent game when they can get a great one for $30?

And it's going to get a lot more expensive... Ahhh... It's not looking good.
My only regret was buying Fallout 76 for R$90, during the launch of the Wastelanders DLC.
also seemed to me as a european that north americans usually got smoe crazier sales and discounts than we did over here
As videos of the game are posted on youtube, as people begin to comment... it increases the pressure for some to buy it, regardless of cost.
And 'AAA' knows very well how to push that button.
They are the ones Xbox is targetting, not you and me.
