Remember, they were Marines, kids, 18, 18, 20, many who had never been off the res. Volunteered to fight for a country who just 70 years prior fought against the native, repeat native tribes to take their land. They fought for the Republic and many tribes did not have the right to vote in 1940.

Native code talkers were a very clandestine group. It is almost certain that my uncle (from the Akwesasne Res.) was a Mohawk code talker although the information died with him in 1948. He served in the 2nd Signal Service Battalion and he was an American hero. 🪶
