I'm hearing a lot from the media NGO sector about the impact of USAID cuts. A lot of small investigative media organisations across the globe are facing imminent closure as the funding they've budget for has vanished overnight, and the funder community has no capacity to absorb the shock.

In my view, this is fat that has accumulated in the US budget over years of mismanagement.
I do not think the intent of USAID was to fund investigative media organizations.
Rhetorical- I know the answer.
How do we convey the reality of this to simple minded supporters of this destruction?
We are at the precipice now. Once we cross the Rubicon, there is no return.
The danger is real but the sacrifice is worth saving our nation and its people from a catastrophic dismantling of our very foundation.

Alright then. I'll bin my American media subscriptions this evening and see where the money saved that way might usefully go.
Symbolic gesture maybe, but it adds up. It's a start anyway.
