Someone posted something about Greenland having valuable logistics for shipping across a thawing north pole, or maybe some sort of legal claims on routes, but I think it's a lot dumber than that and mostly we can blame Mercator.

Maybe Putin wants it as a strategic point to connect to Europe. It's 75% ice-covered, so not an ideal location for golf courses or resorts for the most part. Maybe he thinks Donald can take it over for him.

He simply wants to add some territory somewhere to the US to prove his greatness. This is why he now has Canada and Panama in the mix. He is going to try and add territory a la Putin.
