I hate that CDs aren't a thing now. So much of making music for me was tied up in producing one of those little plastic discs. The disc art and box, the packaging and posting. I don't really care about some tracks on a server. Vinyl wasn't really a thing for me. Cassettes were briefly. CDs I miss.

I adore the Irish musician Hozier and from his following I've seen that for the youth, CDs are huge. Caught me off-guard (because vinyl is far better), but these kids are so reverential to the 90s era right now so that medium (and fashion etc) is huge for them.
(Apologies for the hyperbole)
they actually are, like many newer releases are on cds, and they're pretty cheap
i literally have a small cd collection at home
and it's the only physical media format that's convenient for me
as vinyl record players are expensive and cheap cassette players are crappy
though vinyl is having a revival (i guess?), and soon we may see a cassette/cd revival, too
I realise how i sound.
But even I pick and choose what's worth a cd release, and what I do digital only
Having a limited selection to choose from is part of it too, it strengthens your attachment to what you do have. Quality not quantity and all that.

I only listens and buy so I don't make music
The difference between physical and streaming is definitely more nuanced than people give it credit.
I love that there are no stats, counts or metrics of the CDs I burned, printed, gave away and sold. No record of plays. I think not having that is a blessing people can't appreciate now.
Not after the last time.
