As for Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s visit to the White House being “lauded as a diplomatic success”. Where is the evidence for that success? Trump accelerated his trade war against Ireland / the EU hours afterwards and humiliated the Irish gov by inviting its most famous critic to the WH on 17 March.

This refers to the widespread view in Ireland that the Taoiseach’s visit to Washington was a significant success for the Irish government. I think that is not accurate. He should have gone but it was far from a triumph.
