Had no idea they did that. Have to tell my brother. He lost his ear drum years ago, ruptured.

I had a mass removed. It destroyed the bones of the middle ear, & my ear drum was completely scarred over. So they removed the scar tissue and placed some kind of tympanic plastic instead. Once I’m completely healed, they’ll attempt to reconstruct my entire inner ear.
[SURGICAL DESCRIPTION] My ear is toast so I’m not sure I’m the one to speak to it. I had my mastoid process drilled out & the mass of scar tissue that was my ear drum removed. They put in the fake to aid in healing & they’ll rebuild my ear in 6 mo to a year once I’ve healed completely.

(If it's okay to ask) what happened to the old one?? I've never heard of an eardrum injury that didn't also mess up the external ear.
(Odd question, very optional) how did it feel getting it placed in? (Sorry if I'm asking too many things)
