Wow, that takes me back... As a kid it was basically my summer job to go to the library every day and read enough books so that one day every week I could feed my family during the big Bush Sr. recession that cost my dad his job...
OH MY GOD, I completely forgot about that program! I guess Canadians and Americans both had that pizza book reading program.
It's just a wave of nostalgia hitting right about now.
Yes! Pizza Hut did it back in the 90s/early 2000s. It was called Book It. You got a personal sized pan pizza for every 10 books you read! I loved pizza so I read a lot of books π
I mean honestly though I'm pro public libraries getting a pizza or Donut reward program. We gotta fight the adult illiteracy in this country especially. Read A Book America learn new perspectives. Now put that on a dumb flag.
Seriously though 5 books free Donut 10 pizza 30 I don't know Amazon card?
I wonder if we could make a rule that every 20 or 30 or 100 or whatever term papers I read = 1 book so the things I read most could aggregate into a personal pan pizza win.
Because you are unfortunately your own keeper and have to do your own enrichment, the upside being you can pan pizza yourself for ten books, the downside being you can also pan pizza yourself for no books.
You made me laugh out loud with this one.
Iβm 2/3 of the way through @alfiekohn.bsky.social βPunished by Rewards,β and he keeps mentioning the pizza for #reading gimick.
Hey, I'm an adult. I can get one whenever I want. AND birthday cake. I can literally throw myself a pizza party. Yet everyday. I wake up. And I forget I can.
Actually, every time you read ten books, you should be the one giving someone a pizzaβafter all, what you gain from reading is worth far more than a pizza! ππ
I wish I got pizza for reading books! I actually just recently dug up an old certificate I got in kindergarten for reading 30 books (little picture books of course) and they put my picture on it and I was standing next to my parents looking so proud
Honestly GoodReads should partner with a pizza company and just start handing out gift cards or discounts for anyone whoβs read at least 10 books this year.
You have adult money. Set a standing order with a pizza place for once a month, and race that order with books. Or, hear me out. Just treat yourself. You deserve it.
Given that indigestion and acid reflux are common issues with aging, they might be doing you a favor. Pizza's good, but good enough to warrant enduring heartburn.
Pizza Hut filed bankruptcy. Sorry to ruin your day. I would be keen to run a school program like this. Others could participate. Got to lead by example. Great idea.
As a teacher of elementary aged kids in the late 90s / early 2000s, that program worked well for me πββοΈ as an incentive for my students to read. I now notice today it is harder to get kids to read books π. I blame social media, digital gaming, & cell phone π± but maybe the real problem is: no pizza! ππ΅
I was in 4th or 5th grade and a bit of quick math told me I could get a pizza a week if I read the grade-level appropriate books that my school always suggested instead of whatever I could find at the city library.
What's your pizza cred? I did 23 NYC years, am a pizza snob. I never had edible personal pan pizza. Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx have pizza worth reading for. Costco, the food court, no. If you canβt get good pizza, donβt write books, move. Books you can read anywhere.

Bonus points if you turn it in when you get the pizza.

Gosh that took me back to those days I totally forgot about them

My brother's had many a personal pan pizza courtesy of me. I'll gladly do it again too. (except for my kids this time, not my brothers)

Those RIF book ordering catalogs then the RIF truck showing up to school 6-8weeks later...MY GOD!
As a kid it most likely took you a month.

lemme tell you a secret
