I couldn’t figure out what the ‘unanimous consent’ agreement from last night was.
Do you know what the plan is for the DC non Article 3 judges is?
Thanks.
The reads-like-stenography-from-Thune's-office report is clearly framed in the way most likely to make Trump think Thune is doing good by him.
OTOH: There was *some* sort of agreement, because Dems actually got unanimous consent last night to proceed to cloture votes on all of those district court nominees.
1. We don't know what the agreement actually was.
2. We don't know why Dem leaders dealt with the GOP on it.
3. We don't know what the actual effects of any deal are.
1. Only two appellate nominees are for current vacancies:
- Adeel Mangi (3rd Cir)
- Julia Lipez (1st Cir)
2. Two appellate nominees are for contingent vacancies (in other words, they can withdraw):
- Ryan Park for James Wynn Jr. (4th Cir)
- Karla Campbell for Jane Stranch (6th Cir)
- We know that is so for Mangi
- One of Sinema or Manchin have voted against some of the lame-duck nominees. If they both did, that's that — unless a Republican votes yes.
Schumer should still push for more before the end, but, it's possible this wasn't giving up anything.
