CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) has provided real-time data and analysis about disease outbreaks and emerging health threats without a break every week since 1960.

Until today.

My doctor’s office me sent me a reminder on a health screening.

I clicked on a link in the email and got a “page not found” error from the CDC.

They’ve literally taken down information on routine cancer screenings

Yep. Some (most?) states track this on their own, providing the data to the feds, but a state-by-state patchwork is insufficient--too many holes.

And if the states were using fed money to support their data collection then we're well and truly blind.

I thought I was done for the day. I kept thinking about this post. I have been working, researching, training, teaching, & lecturing on the data that comes from this report for almost 20 years. The stats for the disparity in life expectancies come from this. The social determinants come from WMMR.

Right now I am stunned. All of us who work on the margins in public health rely on this. I need to think about this and then find people to work on this atrocity that will result in unnecessary premature mortality and preventable & treatable chronic illnesses. Trump is a menace.
