"Before irreparable damage is done by way of financial contributions, public manifestations in Begin's behalf, and the creation in Palestine of the impression that a large segment of America supports Fascist elements in Israel, the American public must be informed..." - Einstein, Arendt, et al
Other ACLU lawyers also entered appearances over the past hour.
Other lawyers had already entered appearances on Khalil’s behalf in the case, but this means the ACLU — including its top immigration lawyer — are actively joining the case, suggested by a skeet earlier today.
NEWS: In a letter filed today:
1. The parties agree a scheduling hearing is needed.
2. DOJ plans to file a motion Wednesday to transfer the habeas petition or dismiss it.
3. Khalil's counsel plans to submit an amended habeas petition Thursday.
DOJ is going to desperately try to get this case transferred to the law-free zone known as the Fifth Circuit. If SDNY says no, I'm half expecting the Fifth Circuit to issue a writ of mandamus attempting to force SDNY to transfer the case to Louisiana.
Thanks for all your great work, really appreciate your reporting!
"Motion to transfer the petition" does that mean the DoJ is going to try to get this transferred to the district court in Louisiana (or wherever it is they've hidden him away)?
the secretary of state has broad authority to revoke the legal status of green card holders whose presence is deemed inconsistent with US foreign policy...
Not saying that's the way it should be but the laws look favorable to Government
it's a questionable provision alright but once the secretary of State invokes it, it seems very hard for a Court to second-guess the Secretary what's in the best interest of the US

question: do you know if he will be at his hearing or is he still being detained in louisiana?
