Reality: Autistic people can make friends... it's just harder for us because we have a much smaller pool of people who relate to us and share our (limited) interests. So it's a bit like winning the lottery when we find someone who does.

In my case, I breathed the 30s/40s/50s, so had more in common with parents than classmates.
And my parents were deep, fortunately as well. I was lucky
..
(Sadly, that doesn't mean we can overcome limitations like eye contact, social anxiety, or remembering to get in touch).
I still miss friends I haven't seen in 40 years.
