As someone who used to be seriously into foraging for both edible and medicinal plants I always avoided harvesting along roadsides even though they are prime sources because of residual lead and asbestos from the days when they were deposited by cars. I never considered tire dust.

Not necessarily. Data from fleet managers indicate longer tyre life from EVs. Most tyre degradation is from tearing / slip under acceleration and breaking. EVs manage the torque better than ice and suffer less slip tearing than ice as a result
There are also electrostatic dust traps being trialled

That is a lot of tires, David. Enough to reach the moon in a year if stacked on their sides. I stand beside a busy highway as a school crossing guard for 2 hours each day. I love helping the kids, but not only tailpipe emissions, but also tire & brake dust is a huge concern for me. 🚸

EVs are not environmentally friendly. Those lithium ion batteries are not recyclable. I would rather a fuel efficient car that gets high mileage We know those can be made.

Hmm. Seems like lithium batteries can be recycled … at least at a consumer level right now. Plus car batteries do have a useful life well past its use in EV automobiles.
