ok one more "how we do it on bluesky" re: "block, don't engage." it's not that anybody wants to tell you what to do -- it's that we collectively realized that this is what works. it works really great! zero, zero response needed. just block! don't argue at all with dickheads! try it! you'll see.

Both platform and users letting the garbage away from our sky 🙏
practicing saying “no” to psychic toxins in your life is essential to survival (and something I hope to become better at as soon as possible, because there is a tsunami of psychotoxin arriving)
And yes. It’s much easier than arguing with trolls.
we can and should make every iteration of social media better and healthier than the last.

If you interact with them, you give them the chance to report you first and that just punishes you, the victim.
What this means is people can't come and start fights in your replies. It cuts trolling off at the knees.
So to us, this is a place to have fun again. Blocking those who opinions will never change is simply the SOP for enjoying social media again 🤙

Not so, here. :D
Made me think of this classic.
Agreed it is a good method!
Don't feed the trolls

Been online and dealing with Trolls in some way or shape since 1995.
Twitter was rife not just with toxicity in general, but a lot of toxic positivity, and a lot of folks don’t like “I’ve got a slightly different take” being rolled into “oh you’re evil”.
In fairness, I would have blocked him after that DM if he hadn’t blocked me first.
You don't need to tell me why, I have a good idea, but I'm reminded that there's a stark difference between awareness and experience.
I can only imagine it’s much worse for notable figures. Like I’m nobody on there and I still got that kind of bullshit attention.
That said, they were pretty easy to block/ignore/forget. And the positive folks were MEMORABLE.
💁♀️
When I talk about not blocking, I’m only considering the actual interacting non-shitty people. When folks hear me talking about not blocking, they think I mean Nazis.
No no, definitely block them!
And stop rounding up.
Top right, beside blue 'follow' button are 3 dots '...'
Click on it, choose block.
They have entire blocklists that are super liberating!
You are the user. You are in complete control of your own experience. Soon you'll wonder why ev'ything isn't like that in life.

Just show them you have greater patience (and also report for harassment).
Depending on your definition of dickheads though you end up reenforcing living in an opinion bubble.
This one has been excellent. Click link. Click subscribe. Click block.

However...
If you respond and it disturbs our peace, you're in danger of getting blocked yourself.
We've found our peace, we're not giving it up.
Ignore the trolls and haters and they shrivel up and blow away.
Feed them and them and they multiply like tribbles.
Basically.
In the real world, conservatives want to block social engagement of people with whom they disagree. The liberal advice is to raise your voice and be heard. Don't let them block you.
On social media, the advice is exactly the opposite.
What does that say about our society?
I am still finding my way around here.
It just struck as some weird form of social commentary by humanity. Not seen this noted yet by more astute humanity observers.
The "block, don't engage" advice is pretty solid. My observation was more about the sadness of the real world where the same advice marginalizes minorities and disadvantaged people.
