Oat power balls with peanut butter, chocolate chips, honey, flaxseed, dried cranberries, and bobs organic oats. Mix ‘em, roll ‘em, eat ‘em. Yum. Can roll ‘em in confectioners sugar if you don’t want peanut butter on your hands.
This year I started making my Bob’s Red Mill steel cut oats in a rice cooker. Talk about a game changer! One cup of dry oats yields four portions. Sometimes I reheat a portion with almond milk, diced apples, and protein powder, and sometimes I make a savory version with chicken, cheese, and soy.
Ideal method of preparation (imo):
(Instant's Pot) 4 servings
1)Brush pot with VIRGIN coconut oil - the stuff that smells like coconut!
2) 1 cup oats, 4 healthy pinches of salt (oats need salt for flavor, otherwise bland)
3) 5-6 cups water (it won’t be watery)
4)”porridge” setting 6-7 min.
Never noticed a difference between Bob’s or any other steel cut oat. That said, so good. Add a lil maple syrup and a pinch of salt to the water, then a handful of granola on top.
Bob Moore was a Portland, OR icon who passed this year. He started his company 40+ years ago and Bob’s Red Mill is still an employee-owned business. The products are outstanding and employees are treated well. Great company to support. ❤️
I make them in the instant pot. 2c oats, 5 c water, 1/2 t salt. Close, seal, set to high for 4 mins and when done natural release 15 mins. Faster than stovetop and you don’t have to worry about them boiling over. Perfect al dente oats every time. If you like them softer, natural release for 20 min.
Thank you for this. Just got an Instant Pot and wasn’t sure how to cook oats. I need them to be perfectly al dente, and I need them to be no-fuss.
Most of all, I need to make them in the IP so buying the appliance seems less like an unnecessary extravagance. Oats alone could justify its existence.
I believe it. I’ve been using a regular pressure cooker for rice and it is so easy and quick. Once you dial in the timing for your preferred rice type, it’s consistently perfect.
Not to go off topic but since the IP is such a multi tool, I’ll share that I’ve not bought yogurt for four years. I now make all of my yogurt in the IP.
Also wondering about using the sous vide function in bread fermentation/proofing, and how it would work to temper and hold chocolate for candy making or biscotti dipping.
Had them this morning. With pistachios, butter and chocolate chips melted in, a splash of full fat cream and a spoonful of Vermont maple syrup. Sometimes a sprinkle of cinnamon. Full. All. Day.
And the best part? Bob was an incredible man! Living in Milwaukie, Oregon, home of Bob’s, I’ve seen firsthand how much he gave to the community. He was everything corporate greed isn’t—genuine, generous, and kind. Here’s more about his inspiring story!
They really are! ...and you can prepare them the night before by just putting them in the boiling water, turn the stove off and let them sit overnight. They'll be perfectly cooked in the morning
Also, I hate oatmeal. But ... Thanks? In case you have more health tips, I'll let you know my older sister has owned her own yoga studio for two decades and is a crazy anti-vaxxer to boot so I'm knee-deep in unnecessary advice about what I put in my body.
I'm sure you're hoping to be helpful, but I'm not trusting someone who filed a class-action lawsuit against the company 😂 something tells me Lead Free Mama's results would be more credible if she weren't doing the testing.

Be forewarned. These take longer to simmer, but worth the effort. Try cooking with diced apple and raisins. add cinnamon to taste in the bowl.

Yes, we realize it's spelled differently 🌝
For those mornings when you really need a good colon blow
The first time I had real oatmeal? Slow cooked with milk and cream and butter?
Holy shit. Died and went to oatmeal Heaven.
Is Bob Mills’ that good?
Both far better than oatmeal has any right to be!
Last 5 minutes, handful of dried cranberries.
Take it off the stove and stir in a tablespoon of marmalade and a pinch of brown sugar.
😱 hoooooly hell 😋

Employees tend to be more productive when they own their business because they have a direct stake in its success.
Good you found something else you can enjoy!
Thanks again… ☺️

I’ve heard people say that it’s an incredibly simple process and so much better without all the gums and thickeners.
Thank you for the suggestion. 😊🙏
