Something I think about a lot is how tech guys basically think they're building the next generation of consciousness or whatever when biology has already created, e.g., little Portia spiders that are a million times smarter, self-sufficient, and all with just 100K neurons and on a few kCal a day.

In all seriousness though, there is a basic tenet to all problem solving, and it is that we need to know how things work in theory and practice if we want to fix things when broken or make something new with the skill set.
The truth of the matter as I see it is that the use of any tool or processes that I don't understand is a dangerous leverage for me.
