I think it's more that the democratic party fails to deliver and we feel a need to understand why. At the end of the day, Obamacare is a partially fulfilled promise on government healthcare, and Trump's borderwall is also only a partially fulfilled promise. For many, this is just not good enough.

Well, the reason is that they don't win elections big enough. Same reason why medicare and civil rights waited until 1964. Obamacare is what it was sold as - an incremental advance that helped 10s of millions. Trump's border wall is just another grift - what Trump voters wanted more of, I guess.

Here in Canada, we have two parties which reflect the values of the US Dems: the centrist Liberals and the progressive NDP. Splitting the left vote has sometimes led to right-wing govs but our greatest progress as a nation has happened when the centre was beholden to the left for votes.

Too complicated to be generalized as generational. I’m a boomer that recognized the fact that many in government were more concerned about protecting institutions, corporations & the elite.
