I hear that. I personally relish Potter’s comeuppance and that an American classic is so nakedly anticapitalist, but I also definitely get not wanting to invest precious time in something that doesn’t feel rewarding!
Ironically, Frank Capra was himself apparently very conservative and very anti-New Deal. (Depending on how you watch Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, you can read between the lines and see an old Republican critique of government jobs programs and big cities).
Yeah, it's hard to get past some of that, especially with that era, but I find that I can compartmentalize a bit when it's worth it. Like for The Philadelphia Story, which is problematic in a few different ways, but...it's Kate Hepburn and Cary Grant ffs, plus the rest of the cast and great dialog.
