I disliked Trudeau when he first became Liberal leader. I found him to be an intellectual lightweight and I hated his speech patterns. But he grew on me and I learned to admire his calm and class in the face of hardship.

For me it was the arrogance of assuming she would win. It was clear to me that she would not. I also never got over the petty lies, like claiming she was named after Sir Edmund Hilary when she was already born before he became famous. (I know, Trump's lies are worse. But I expect more from the sane)

I didn’t see her as arrogant. Just refreshingly confident for a woman. I didn’t hear that petty lie but people’s stories always have distortions - either because what people said gets blurred together or a hope of theirs get mixed in. But she would have been a damn fine president.

I saw her speak in Vancouver and one of the things that stayed with me was that she was loved as a first lady, as a mother, as a Secretary of State bc they were “helper” roles, but she was disliked as a presidential nominee. Because as soon as a woman admits that she wants to be in power it changes.

?? I remember her being hated as a First Lady/mother because she worked outside the home, ridiculed as a Senate candidate because she didn’t have the resume to qualify her (because she hadn’t worked while 1st lady?) and then harassed with endless investigations as a Secretary of State.

What surprised me is that so many women accepted her as a feminist icon despite spending most of her career in public life helping Bill Clinton destroy the women he slept with. There are many good reasons to dislike the Clintons. Many, many good reasons.

Isn't that the truth! I think that's what I see missing in an assessment of Hillary's legacy. On one hand, she is the most successful female politician in American history. On the other, she enabled Bill, while destroying his victims. One can dislike her without basing it on her gender, I think.

BTW, I do think some people hate women because they're women. I have certainly experienced irrational hate as a gay man. The thing is, I recognize there are people who can dislike me because of things I do and not reduce it all to my sexual orientation. I'm more than "gay". She's more than "woman".

Yeah, having Adrienne Clarkson ,especially during the "Take Thirty" days, was a good foreshadowing of Hillary...we thought Adrienne would be Prime Minister, but she did us one better, and became queen of Canada, for a few years...😁
