There are soooo many reasons that (comparatively liberal) Canada won't be a 51st state. Among them, we'd be allotted so many electoral votes (due to our population size) that no Right-leaning US President would ever be elected again.

This assumes that functional government rules will be followed. We've already seen that Republicans bend the rules as it suits them. Historically, fascist governments simply do away with inconvenient rules affecting their power.
Top example: think how easy voting is now, & imagine roadblocks.
There would probably be vague promises about getting to vote someday after we paid our dues by being conscripted to fight in the next phase of the empire's expansion.
That's not the case though. If we are ever at the point where Canada is taken by military forces, there will be no democratic process, no one will be voting anymore. it would mean we could not escape to asylum on foot or by car. We would be trapped in hell.
Even so, since electoral votes are distributed based on census, even the Right-leaning areas (Alberta, Sask) are comparatively tiny and would get few votes. No matter how you split up Canada, you get votes that overwhelmingly skew to the Left. (Our own riding system ignores population to skew Right)
The thing about the most recent American election is that it was the last one any of us will ever see. He literally campaigned on that promise. And every Republican in office has made it clear that they won't tell him no under any circumstance.
Yes thanks you. People still delude themself that in 4 or 8 years Dems will be in power again and will fix all this shit, like Biden did. It's over, there will never be any non fascist in the white house ever again, or not at least in our life time. I fear the EU might follow the same path.
I think you guys should pick a few states to join up with you! You're already taking care of California better than our own govt. I bet you could wrap up the entire west coast in no time. 🤷♀️
The problem with entertaining the narrative of Canada as the "51st State" is that it runs headlong into the presumption that the existing US electoral system - which would credibly favour a strongly Dem-leaning 51st state - continues un-Musked/Trumped.
thats actually not a very good argument given we seem poised to elect Pollieve. Canada is way more conservative than is often assumed, even by many canadians
That can be solved; in a first stage, Canada will be like Puerto Rico: an unincorporated territory of the USA. So no votes at the beginning.
Then, like 200 years later, that can change
They would fast track statehood for your most conservative regions, leave the rest as territories and provide roadblocks, then engage in voter suppression tactics.
We had the same thought process 9 years ago when he ran against Hillary. The goal post has moved so far it’s like the analogy of the frog boiling in water and not realizing it till it’s too late.

My first thought. I’m just waiting for some company to petition the Supreme Court saying can we keep our illegal immigrant workforce by listing them as property. That’s what Canada would become.
Authoritarian oligarchs don't play by established rules - they make their own. Like the man said, we'll become the 51st state when hell freezes over and the snowball fights begin.

Theyd most likely treat us like a " protectorate" like Puerto Rico

I'm not dying in a ditch in Greenland.
They don't need votes anymore. Fascism won.

I'd just... Not and resist.
