I wanted to record it, but I was in the isle seat, and was afraid the woman sitting in the window seat - a stranger, who was sleeping - would wake up and assume I was recording HER in her sleep.
Have you ever seen that in daylight? On a flight to Italy the pilot said we were changing course to go round a storm over the Alps. The thunderheads began below the mountain tops but towered well above us and were lit by the setting sun, with the lightning lighting up the insides of the clouds.
It was the most spectacular thing I've ever seen from the air. There were so many colours in the clouds. Sadly it was before everyone had cameras in their pockets all the time and my photographer colleague was cursing that he'd had to put his camera case in the hold.
I often get a bit annoyed with the impact of cameras on cellphones (all the selfies and nobody actually looking at anything) but I gotta admit it was pretty great to be able to just video that storm without even thinking about it.

Surprised you couldn't hear the thunder, but I guess the storm was further away than it looked
