Without saying Lord of the Rings, name a movie where there's an opening "Long ago, such and such happened..." exposition sequence that is Good, Actually

The thing is, though, tell me that entire sequence wouldn't be vastly improved by holding it off until Gandalf says it all to Frodo in monologue when he first tells him about the One Ring 20 minutes into the film.
Having just rewatched the first 30 min of that movie mere days ago, it would definitely be better the way you suggest. The tone shift from the backstory narration to Bilbo’s birthday preparations is jarring & unnecessary, unless you presume the average viewer has literally never heard of Tolkien.
Like, I get wanting to hold the viewer's attention, but I'm reasonably sure that "bunch of charming gnome dudes jamming at a wizard party" will do the trick for the first leg of the film
Haha the first thing to come to mind is Barbie, which just had a hilarious 2001 a space odyssey spoof cold open. The film was downhill from there for me, please don’t cancel 🙏

Anyway, correct answer is Pan's Labyrinth.
