They said in their initial video that the app will be in development while people use it. It's nearly impossible to create *an entire platform* with any speed. We call this Agile in the software industry. Get something out, hear user feedback, implement said feedback, repeat until general release.
Can you leverage Bluesky’s existing stackable moderation to let us report posts to existing labelers like Skywatch Blue etc? Also will the app incorporate existing block lists and feeds if I use my https://bsky.social identity to log in?
Why would you have made an app without a report function?? This makes it seem like there will be other pretty large oversights in terms of user safety and app moderation.
People need to understand they're making public posts on public forums and not GitHub. People should also understand that overlooking user safety will land the app creators in a lot of hot water and was a large issue when bluesky itself started.
It’s a pre-beta program. Application development occurs in iterations. The report function was going to happen before it went public release. Apple simply wanted it for the private beta release for it to be in the App Store.
Releasing any version of the app, which she previously said they are currently approving testers for, without a report function is an oversight. She herself said it's totally fair the report function is needed *now*.
So, it is not a leap to assume other safety features may be overlooked.
Huh? They’re talking about a BETA version. They’re building something to get it available to a private test audience. Moderation tools were always planned for the general release.
So an announcement to the general public that the app is soon to be available for download to the general public doesn’t mean it can be used by the general public. Got it. Reporting posts should have been an immediate thought not an afterthought. Even in Beta. Its functionality needs testing as well
OMG, I’m so excited! I fear something horrible has happened in the downtime that was when TT went dark. Everything feels off, so I am waiting with breathless anticipation for this to be up & running! I can’t ever remember being excited about anything like an app ever in my life, but I am about this!
Yeah, they made system updates, you can tell by the blurry videos on TikTok and even now made an Instagram app are a little bit different. I’m pretty sure they integrated cross platform.
Well, I’m not the only one noticed and if I noticed, then it’s really, really noticeable. So, on the upside, being forewarned is being forearmed. I’m very excited about Skylight though, & there’s another app also in beta testing, but we’re aware somethings off and that’s half the battle. 👍💪🏻
And the thing is it seems like there was no actual reasoning for them to temporarily shut it down, so I do feel like there was something shifty going on with it

There are several hashtags that have to do with the trump administration that are blocked/banned from being used on TikTok since it shut down. So they absolutely made changes to appease his fragile narcissistic ego & are censoring people’s right to free speech which is very sad & terrifying.
if the platform is meant for creators, what will you do to combat generative AI? will you keep genAI out of it? how will you handle free speech and hate speech? in the wake of twitter, meta, and google's repressive anti-palestine, anti-queer, and anti-dei movements, this is important to know.

Well not to be the bearer of bad news but we know who the app store is attached to. So what are some ( assuming that you can share that information) ways that your mitigating against unjust tampering? That is my biggest question
Why would they be requiring certain features? Isn’t the point of an App Store review to ensure that it follows standards and isn’t injecting malware or harming the users in some way?

Having the ability to report a post is good but you'll also need people and policies for handling the reported posts, do you have plans for how that will work?

i’m so excited for this, but this does raise the question around content moderation and specifically fact checking - will you have guardrails in place to flag, label, or remove provably false information or does that contradict the AT proto? (this is a question based in my own ignorance lol)
Since it’s decentralized, it’s kind of hard for centralized moderation. It’s more likely you will be able to subscribe to fact checking services like you can subscribe to block lists on Bluesky.

You can post video on Bluesky. Skylight is a video focused app like how TikTok is. So it’s only going to serve up video content and it will have video creation tools built into it that Bluesky doesn’t.
