If they'd shown even half the independence of mind over Magic Grandad that the centre-left has shown over Starmer, they'd have emerged with lot more dignity than they did in fact manage.

As someone who supported him, if he had ever announced a ban on refugees like this, we would’ve been up in arms.
It’s not about independence of mind of the left, it’s about the fact neoliberals like Starmer always give way to the far right. Surely you must be catching on by now.
Comparing Corbyn fans sticking with him during the election with Starmer fans criticising him months after he won the election is a very strange take. If anything, you're pointing out you have no dignity Ian.
This is a funny way of describing people who looked at Starmer's past and policies and accurately predicted all this. People who were ridiculed endlessly for suggesting this by people like you from actual platforms.
More to the point, the vast majority of Corbyn supporters are “centre-left”. They just want decent public services and a bit of dignity in both youth and old age.
Hi Ian, loved your podcast with Dorian explaining what neoliberalism is, seems like a difficult concept to understand hence why I am messaging you here. I'm unclear, on what point could they have shown more independence?
not a bore, but I do think it would be more dignified just to admit that you were wrong about Starmer, rather than venting your rage at the Corbynites. Sure, they might have been overenthusiastic, but they just thought an end to misery & hate might actually be in sight.
It would be nice, though, if Starmer's office reflected on the fact that they have acted precisely like the Continuity Corbyn lot accuse them of acting. Would be a good prompt for some introspection.
Ian, you should ask yourself why "hard-left bores" are so much better at predicting whatever relevant domestic and global actor in politics today, Starmer, Israel, etc., are than you and people who share your politics. Isn't this proof the left simply has a better grasp of reality?
there is a difference between actual reality and what the people paying your wages want to happen, their job is to try and shape political outcomes so that the markets get the predictions correct and the investors who also incidentally take ownership of their publications don't take major losses.
the problem is what happens when the investors interests are hitting up against a brick wall because there is literally no longer the liquidity in the system to acquiesce to their demands.
The Left knows this and has for a considerably long time, the publications owners however are still up there is la la land or narnia listening to puff the magic dragon.
reliable predictions can be helpful because we all have pensions and the same investors piling money into the publications are also effectively running our pension funds and insurance systems trying to make smart investments, the problem is what happens when the bookies get it totally wrong.
Have you considered the possibility that the reason why Labour are acting the way “the Continuity Corbyn lot” accuse them of acting is that those accusations had merit all along?
Ian please understand that this comes from a place of love and respect: you're a fucking doofus who was wrong about literally everything. Some introspection from you might be an idea
"I hate all these insufferable cunts who kept telling us that Starmer was a crypto-fascist salivating to enact Tory policies. Fuck, I wish Labour had listened to the same insufferable cunts, because they were right."
Ian, with all due respect, i'd say that the British liberal press should probably do a bit of introspection on falling for every Tough Choices Need To Be Made scam since at least the financial crash, in order to maybe not fall for it next time?
I voted Labour as I thought they were confidently outward looking towards Europe as well as caring for the UK. It’s seems that nearly all of them are shrinking into themselves and looking only inward and backward and almost too scared to move at all. Unless it’s to suck up to the Tango’d Twit ofc.
Sounds like they were completely right and you're mad about it, why not take this moment to reflect on your own political beliefs and listen with some humility?
McSweeney’s project is intellectually lazy, morally weak. Like virtually all the parties, it’s susceptible to money. It’s naive in terms of understanding the flow of history and the evolution of countries in late stage neoliberalism. It’s authoritarian. Much of this was visible before the GE.
As somebody once described as being to the right of Attila the Hun, who joined the Tory Party when Blair won in 97, became disillusioned and left and then voted Green, I could be a “hard left bore” I suppose… Equally, could be I never moved but the Overton Window has moved out of sight :)
So Starmer's always been unambiguously a fascist. who you supported and vilified anybody who didn't, and now you're working out he's a fascist it's somehow all our and Corbyn's fault?
it’s not prompted any introspection on your part, why would they be any different? and it’s not like it’s a coincidence they are acting as “continuity corbyn” (whatever that means) accuse them of acting
My fucking god. Did you seriously type that out, that entire thing, and still lack enough self-awareness to realise you should also self-reflect on the fact everything the left warned you about with starmer was right, and you are still angry at the left for it...
The fact he’s blocking everyone who was right about stamer instead of actually leaning that enlightened centrism isn’t a real thing is probably why he lacks the self awareness
I imagine this will get me blocked, but have you considered that maybe, the fact that we have been right about the cluster fuck that is Starmerism; now might be a good time to re-consider your opinion of us, rather than doubling down?

Not sure where this "independence of mind" is you speak of. Let alone dignity.
Why is supporting the former undignified?
And as someone who has bought and read your books, ‘Magic Grandad’ nonsense is surely beneath you.
It’s not about independence of mind of the left, it’s about the fact neoliberals like Starmer always give way to the far right. Surely you must be catching on by now.
Can’t wait to be blocked
Getting in one last kick?
The rest are leaning decidedly to the right.
They are not serious people.
You absolute cunt.
