In a rapid offensive during the last 48 hours, anti-government rebels in northern Syria have captured dozens of villages. Most important: they have entered -and already claim control over- Aleppo, the second largest city in Syria.

It's difficult to support any side in this conflict. One one hand you have the government which is backed by Russia, on the other you have "rebels" which is full with Islamists which will turn Syria into another Afghanistan.
Sometimes you just have to support the enemy of your enemies. Even if they don’t fully align with your beliefs. Anyone fighting Russia and Iran has my support.
Many possible scenarii ahead, they keep going, possibly leading to an uprising near Damas which could severely threaten Assad. Or they could stall and we could face a big grind again like in 2015-17. Time will tell, but as of now Assadist lines are collapsing.
Woah woah woah, they have not captured Aleppo, they have reached the western side of the Aleppo ring road. They do not have control in the city itself as far as we know

The Syrian rebel groups are diverse and have varying ideologies. While some rebel groups have Islamist tendencies, others are secular or nationalist.
