I don't think I can make a graphic novel but I think I'm going to spend the next 10 - 20 years trying to. I already spent 5 years writing it so... π€·ββοΈ
Your drawing and it message is spot on about the difficulties of creativity Elise.
Yes! You do run in to an obstacle where you just have to gnaw on it till it gives you the direction you need to take to circumvent the obstacle.
I write since I did not inherit my mother's talent for drawing.
BTW
I just realised your name is the same as the deceased sister of my main character. Her death was traumatic for him as she died in his arms when he was twelve.
It is also the short form of my saintedβ€οΈ mothers name.
AI is only a tool. Just like Photography at the beginning of the 20th century. Or sampling keyboards in the 80s. Or digital cameras in the 90s-2000s. People freaked out about those technologies too when they were emerging.
Tools evolve, but the artist remains inside of us.
As with any creative endeavors, sometimes you hit a wall and the process is really difficult. Other times, you get into your zone and the creations pour out of you like water from a pitcher. I find that deadlines can be a double-edged sword.
This must be more fun than hard.
If it is not fun, then there might be something missing.
The hard part is part of the game, and as a creative person we like it. ^^
@troubledminnesotan.bsky.social It is hard for mee and i can't do it....
Im just gonna end myself...
I wish I wasn't born......
Im not that great of an artist.....
Im not positive at alll.....
I hope nobody cared about me forever..
Nobody wanted to talk to me but thats ok ill just leave...
I just hope for your sake that your child takes it that way and not like some people I know who will only do difficult things when forced without a choice. Some people don't see most things as worth the effort to do them because the result is not worth it to them.
That would be me today with my pyrography project. Itβs not really a hard one but my body and motivation were down today but I pushed through and Iβm glad I did. π₯°ππΌππΌππΌ
Thank you. Been a struggle recently. Humans can derail but other humans can help get you going again. I'm lucky this time to have encountered enough support.
Thank you for this. It's so true. So many people who have not studied the visual arts have no idea how hard it can be. They think it's magic and therefore assume it's easy. It's a little bit inspiration, and mainly perspiration.

I love this! speaks to my evening yesterday when I was working into the night to try and get a story *just right* and it seemed impossible but eventually I got there.
The harder something is the more strong and knowledgeable you become, is not about how hard something is, is about pushing past your limits and create something beautiful.
This is why using GenAI and LLMs for anything is questionable, and using it for anything creative is bad.
You SHOULD feel intimidated by the blank canvas/page. Even for bad first drafts/sketches, creating something, even something you largely discard, is an essential part of the process.
Why does it have to be that way, though? Making something purposely drudgery is not encouraging someone new to keep doing it. Generative AI can be used as a tool like Photoshop to enhance your visual art. It would be like me saying a writer shouldn't use AI to make sure the book makes sense...
I am trying my DAMNEDEST to learn Blender, and goddamn this is difficult. I'm gonna keep it up, but man it feels like some days I'll just never understand.
And thank you! I first decided to try it out because of the age old adage "why not" and now it's all I'm able to think about. I'm seeing all this stuff you can do with it and it hypes me up! But then I open it and feel like an ape at a typewriter.
Yeah, as a mainly 2d artist who is still a beginner, I agree it is a lot to get used to. The main 3 hurdles for making models are navigation, object mode and edit mode, and adding textures+colors. After any person figures out those things, they can make practically anything. Don't give up!
I know itβs a small compliment but your visual language is so clear that I saw this and in spite of not having seen your work recently, I thought βthatβs Elise!β
The great guitarists know other guitarists are going to scramble to learn to play their riffs. Some go out of their way to make them damn near impossible to imitate. Some visual artists are the same way. Throw down the best gauntlet you can. It's not easy, but it's worth it to have it in the books.
I believe that sunlight is on our side. Once the truth is proclaimed from the hilltops, the evil schemes and lies hidden in the darkness will be revealed. Within us, we carry truth, love, and a hunger for justice. In our hearts and souls, we know that we matter. This truth is my joy.
If I find the right tutorials that donβt just tell me to practice without explaining how to practice, I feel like Iβm stuck at a skill level that I canβt get myself out of unless I know how to improve my craft.

I can't

The best way I through it was to have a client breathing down my neck and a deadline fast approaching. I just had to get it done or I didn't eat. π

That's not who I'm worried about.
that is what everyone needs nowadays

Youβll get it! And I bet you have something valuable and worthwhile to say with it, too π€πββ¬ππββ¬π

And we werenβt kidding about the #AcatemyAwards thatβs a real thing (arguably) π
But I think the real magic is that the film nailed being a cat/Cat. Even cats notice π³
It's not a magical superpower βοΈ It's hard work and years of practice ππ€

if not, it's usually because i'm physically exhausted and need a nap, in which case, the best thing is to just heed that call
(for me personally anyway, ymmv!)
I am so disappointed in us, including myself for having been so naΓ―ve to think that the little liberty we thought we had was everlasting.
