He has the power & platform to drive the national footballing debate but he doesn’t want negative press to destabilise Liverpool.

He quite obviously seeks to destabilise other clubs by driving narratives on Sky, sustaining media cycles in his Telegraph column and whipping up frenzies with “off the cuff” quips for social media soundbites in a range of visual podcast type shows.

It’s very clever but needs calling out now.

Great point. When Rashford was enjoying his best season a couple of years ago he repeatedly commented that he wasn’t good enough still for United to build the attack around.

Fair enough you might say he’s been proven right, but if we had sold him rather than renewing he’d have criticised that too.

This is less so about the actual sporting side of the discussion and more about his tone and dismissiveness. He'd never speak in the same way about a Liverpool player, unless it benefitted the club (see: Sterling). Also, his hypocrisy of "not worth the fuss" while milking the topic for near 2 years.

VVD gets away with another clear red card vs Spurs last week but Carra sets the tone of conversation post match with some absolute drivel about him “being too good for this game”.

I honestly don’t think the impact of this strategy can be underestimated in the modern media landscape.

Bradley had to be subbed in midweek to stop him being sent off after luckily escaping a second yellow.
