It's short, only 1 volume. The minimalistic art style hides a lot of the deaths. But there are still kids dying. Only 3 from starvation.

I'm glad I read the manga. It's very artistic in that it does in a way I'm too sleepy to articulate. But it IS a bunch of girls forced into a MASH unit. In a losing war. The ending is happy atleast.

Note: "Cocoon" is the first production from Sasayuri studio (& training institute), founded by animation producer (& former animator) Hitomi Tateno.
She worked at Ghibli for almost 30 years, and published a related book entitled "Pencil Wars : The Studio Ghibli That No One Knew".

In 2019, Hitomi Tateno directed the OP and produced the animated sequences of "Natsuzora", a live action drama inspired by the life of animator Reiko Okuyama.
Glad to see what she's achieved by producing "Cocoon" with director/storyboarder Ina Yukimitsu.
