Once you notice this—once you see that these senators didn't actually engage in the noble act of voting courageously for a bad bill, but the tawdry, cheap politics of voting "yes" to ensure the bill's passage but "no" on the bill itself—you can't unsee it.

Fetterman, Cortez Masto, Durbin, Gillibrand, Hassan, Peters, Schatz, and Chuck Fucking Schumer ALL VOTED NO on the Continuing Resolution. They voted to let it pass—ostensibly because it was essential that it pass—AND THEN THEY FUCKING VOTED AGAINST IT.

I bet every single one of them is 100% in support of genocide in Gaza.
Even AOC said her goal was to avoid a shutdown, but she had no realistic means of doing that. That reality is what Schumer, Schatz, and the others recognized.

This is how the Senate has worked for almost the last twenty years - and, yes, it is a nuts way for the Senate to work - but that's the reality of it.
- Let it come to a vote, where it will pass with no D votes, then tie it around the Rs' neck for the next year.
- Get a chaotic shutdown during which T & M run wild.
Plus, to hear house Democrats tell it, Schumer changed his mind *after* they voted the way they did, which means they have no reason to trust Schumer anymore, which is a *major* strategic error on Schumer's part.
And yes, that is a valid argument to make about the effects - but it's one that *should have been made* two weeks ago by Schumer and his team in agreement with House Democrats.
Right strategy, failed leadership.
In any case, it's done. And the execution/comms question now is whether the strong "N on cloture" voices, like AOC and Bernie, will let the media keep poking about rifts within the party, or whether they will return to hammering T & M.
Explain to me what the case is for voting no, given all that.
"I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country, to minimize the harms to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open."
But it only works when nobody's paying attention. And they haven't figured out that we're all paying attention.
Likely a couple true believers, but this was a calculated plan- don't put anyone in 26 at risk, make up rest with power hungry Schumer acolytes, and ensure they don't have to fight for us.
