As someone who works with people with eating disorders this is an essential PSA for the holidays and all times
Don’t 👏 comment 👏 on 👏 people’s 👏 bodies
No, seriously, DON’T even if you think it is a compliment

I had a therapist who would comment on my body all the time despite knowing my history. They're not my therapist any more 😅
Even if it's intended as a compliment... there's every chance it's unintentional, or uncomfortable, or just plain unwanted 😭
I know there are some bad therapists out there but 🤯
In 2012, a coworker politely asked if I’d lost weight and was it intentional. Had she not asked I would not have reflected on my weight loss at the time. I would have kept thinking more cardio had been the trick… my thyroid had gone hyperactive and I was actually really quite sick 🥺
caught in nick of time so I am forever grateful to her (which I told her once my thyroid was under control)
in general, not comment for sure
Compliment someone's clothing, earrings, shoes, nails, etc., but don't comment on their body itself - even their face, since fat affects its shape so much.
That’s when I stopped internalizing it. They just didn’t know what else to say.
Best to plan ahead.
I have two family members who suffered from eating disorders as teens.
We need to start normalising not making the ‘gee, have you put on weight since the last time I saw you?’ Comment at gatherings.
And also not commenting on if people have lost weight- unless the person gives the ok.
I came off my anti depressant meds in September- because they were doing bugger all for me- and I’ve since lost 10lbs.
Which doesn’t seem much but I was only 122lbs to begin with. So it does show.
It’s so bloody invasive being asked all the time.
I’m sorry people put you in a position where you feel obligated to explain something that is none of their damn business
Or any other time of the year for that matter!
if a fat politics angle is used, the whole world will be better and nobody would have any urge to comment on anyone else's weight in the first place.
fat politics is a social justice lens and a political committment. you can think of it as a cousin of anti-racism and anti-ableism.
