They think they'll get their share of the profits added to their Doge check. lol.
I still think it's unconstitutional to spend any savings. If you cancel a congresionally funded project, those "saved" funds should be returned to Congress. Surely
The USPS provides its services to all Americans regardless of the actual cost to provide them. A postage stamp will get a letter delivered anywhere. Rural customers, who overwhelmingly voted for Trump, will be hurt the most if the USPS is privatized. It’ll base its charges on its costs.
Yes, I live in a rural town with a very small post office. Everyone knows our carriers and the staff. Many voted for Trump, when the post office is gone, it will hit home.
And USPS is self funded by the sale of postage. As a postal carrier i know the important service that is provided to customers. I for one do not support privatization. Dejoys Delivering for America is tearing USPS apart.
And there are still some amazing Forever stamps (DEI) for sale on the website which mention the women who coded in WW2, Title IX, Black History, RBG, which need to be bought out & used!
I like to keep them for seasonal cards & birthday cards to MAGA relatives.
taxes should be lower, but also, the government should be making a profit! ...from the services it provides... to us... but they shouldnt make a profit off of us... that profit should come from... somewhere... CHINA! 😆
All the foolish maga folks living in rural places are not going to be getting mail delivery. It’s not cost effective to deliver there. Do they not remember that RFD means rural free delivery. DeJoy is all about cost reduction.
Just hand over loads of taxpayers money to a tech firm who will create software that causes a huge scandal in about 10 years time and ruins the lives innocent employees like we did
That's tfg 100%. He's all about making $$$$ off of EVERYTHING he touches. And, now that we have a bunch of sociopathic billionaires running the show, the entire government will exist to fill their pockets.
Yep! Hence, why the idea of luring a businessman to run for POTUS to “straighten things out” was always, and ever will be, a fantastically terrible idea. Politics is its own thing- just like the law or medicine or the military or…..(all the things). A good POTUS needs to be a good politician.
The next step for Trump after forcing the privatization of USPS, he will suddenly become a proponent of mail in ballots. After that, no more free & fair elections. He'll have multiple points of control of our election system.🤬 Especially with Elon & the #TechTots that execute teardown of democracy.
FedEx, UPS, Amazon could NOT replace the post office profitably and in fact rely on the USPO for being able to reach customers. It is a service that reaches every mailbox in America for less than a dollar a mail piece. Just try to match that distribution w a profit! Don’t destroy it first!
Every aspect of the government should turn a profit. I’ve been telling my broker that I want to buy stock in the Dept of Defense and State Dept but he’s not listening to me.
Can we start a campaign to make letter writing, sending greeting cards and checks in the mail popular again?
1)USPS is STILL the only private form of communication.
2)HEMP PAPER could be a lucrative industry now that marijuana is legal.
3)envelopes can't be hacked.
Exactly! I live in a semi-rural area, and the USPS is the most reliable deliverer of anyone. UPS is a close second, but FedEx sucks. Those MAGA voters in rural areas lose again!
They? Please remember that there are Dems and Republicans in every state, rural and urban. Red states are terribly gerrymandered, so Dems can hardly ever win an election. They'll get punished, too.
I would think there will be a regional collection centre at a shopping mall, and it will be up to you to do the 60-100 mile round trip to pick up your own post.
USPS is already a cesspool for criminal activity. It’s so bad folks don’t want to work there. Can you imagine how much worse it would be under government control?
What they SAY is BS. They want to grab any public property they can. USPS has a fleet, real estate. National Forest and Park land is next. Everything is up for grabs in the Republican smash and grab heist of America.
One area where the UK Conservatives beat the Republicans,
apart from the insiders making a killing on the opening share price, the service [like all our privatised services] is slowly going down the toilet.
Anything in the states bought by private equity (for instance my old veterinary office) has lost significant quality in care and service but the price have gone up by 15-20%. I found a new vet. Similar scenario
Universal service will be out the door. Places like Wyoming, Maine, Alaska will get reduced or zero delivery.
Timely delivery of checks or medications to rural areas will cost bigly. GOP. Profits over people.
A friendly reminder to everyone that the USPS was established as a public service IN THE CONSTITUTION. So here’s another attack on the foundational document for our country.
It's dogshit logic that goes way farther back than trump. These cock nozzles think that everything should make a profit. From the little kid selling lemonade to the biggest retailer on the planet if you're not making a profit you're a failure. Unless you're Uber then you can do whatever
Happening in the UK roo fyi. A Czech billionaire is buying our Royal Mail. We know the price of everything and the value of nothing. Thatcher emulated Regan both inspired by Friedman and here we are!!!
If USPS is privatized then it can ensure mail in ballots receive priority handling right into a shredder and then the local incinerator. It could charge the govt more to process them or charge voters more if ballot postage get deemed to be “waste” any of which further disenfranchise voters.
Just like public schools, the USPS exists to serve everyone, regardless of challenges, while private companies and private schools can pick and choose who they find profitable.
And a Musk owned USPS would only deliver mail that Herr Fuher Musk determines that it meets his propaganda standards. No way would Democrats get mailings re: voting.
They may be a little surprised at the cost if they privatize the system. What do they think it would cost to have UPS deliver the mail as opposed to USPS,
If the USPS was supposed to make a profit, it would have been included in the Constitutional provision that CREATED it (Article I, Section 8, Clause 7).
He just wants to stop mail in voting. It’s likely a voter suppression tactic, esp based on how many California blue voters vote by mail. But at least that gives us hope that he thinks people will get to vote again sometime in the future!
Let's not forget the only reason the USPS is not profitable is because of the required financial obligation the uh...checks notes... Republicans forced upon the agency. Once again you can't declare yourself the hero when you started the fire!
Like Amtrak, it's never made a profit. People will literally stop using it except boomers, of course. My package was located 3 months in someone else's mail box because ppl don't check/use it.
Diversion or incomprehensible ignorance. I think we all know it’s about voter suppression. But they seem to have difficulty grasping nothing about govt should be for-profit since its purpose should be to protect the people. Making it for-profit would make it corrupt&against the people by default.
Providing a paid public service that doesn't turn in a profit looks remarkably like socialism. Whatever next: free health care, education, libraries, roads, parks, access to the arts and cultural activities? We can't have that.
Louis DeJoy has had five years to learn the USPS inside and out in preparation for when it is privatized by Trump and DeJoy can take it over. I'm just thinking.
No way on gods green earth anyone can make a profit delivering mail to everyone in the US without charging FedEx or UPS size fees. So expect that $0.73 letter to cost $11.57.
Ya… and you don’t think this has ANYTHING to do with elections, mail in ballots??? Best rethink if you think any of this is about efficiency or profitability… its a smokescreen
Royal Mail has been in steady decline since it was privatised a decade ago. Rural areas are often negatively impacted due to staffing shortages and cuts in general to save money. It’s a prime example of corporate greed destroying a public service for profit.
Yes, and the phone service, and the electrics and gas services, which is why they're all utter shit. The day they come for the health service is the day I set fire to London
The notion that “privatization” results in “more efficient” and “better” services is laughable, as any comparative study will reveal. And yet… the delusion persists. Go figure.
The irony is that the people who will pay the price of Trump and Republicans profitization of the US Postal Service will be the rural MAGA Trump voters, not us liberal city dwellers
Founders realized this, and for that reason the Postal Service was written into the US Constitution. But then again, they don't care about other aspects of the Constitutional law
Hi Jones💙💙 I'm sorry
I’m Diana. My family and I are facing very difficult circumstances in Gaza, and we need your help. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a big difference in our lives. If you can contribute or even share this message, I would be deeply grateful. Thank you ..
It isn’t that and we know it. Even for the NPS, which does bring in money, they are trying to hamper them and destroy it. The destruction is the point with a thin veil of “but it is expensive!”
The day the wealthy learned of other’s subsidizing their lifestyle is the day they no longer worried about profit sharing in tax ratios
All capital gains, dividends no longer taxed but reinvested to gain more profit to not share w/anyone
They are charitable only to themselves, their companies
Imagine the control they would have at election time! Not that they'll need it since there will never be another fair election in the USA until the orange popsicle is jailed for treason.
lol! rural Republicans are dependent on the USPS. If it ever became private they will be devastated by how much service they lose. Fu@k-em. Now lets talk about rural health care...Armageddon!
We had one of those eye sores too, here in Long Island. The space sat there empty for 6 years before Hurricane Sandy finally killed it. Probably the one good thing to come out of that storm.
People need to regularly use the USPS. At Christmas, all holidays, anytime, the USPS package delivery service has been less expensive than the private delivery service. It is not hard to send packages priority mail or 3 day mail.
Once you decide that a service has to be profit-making, it becomes a race to the bottom in terms of how little service it can provide per dollar spent. Just like health insurance.
There positions are that of those that lead them whether they understand what's being said or not. Watching Trump rallies, his people clap no matter what he says. They do understand the simplest of things, hate, division. So everything else he says must be true, and great no matter what it is.
Its a cover - and if he succeeds in this takeover because Congress fails to act then he ultimately has made sure that postal votes will never happen at the next election
... not that a next election when you're a "king" is relevant anymore
My husband worked for a short time at our small-town post office. 8-12 hour days with multiple trips, and having to work Sundays which were solely for Amazon deliveries. Cuts to the USPS have been so bad that they depend on the contract with Amazon to stay afloat. The soul of our nation has rotted.
It sounds like yet another example of them pushing more costs onto the masses in favour of the super-rich. Privatising it means it becomes more of a user-pays service rather than a federal utility so taxes no longer provide for it.
If only the Trump voters had been warned …
Actually BEFORE DeJoy & Rethugs the USPS WAS profitable.
Rethugs made the Post Office move huge amount of profits to retirement lock fund & scuttled the electric car fleet plans which would have been cost savings with solar charge stations.
DeJoy has stock in UPS so destroyed USPS for his profit.
I’d also like to add that in addition to it now costing £1.65 for a first class stamp in the UK, the UK fits into the USA 40 times.
No mail has to travel very far.
The military loses more money than any agency we have. Get rid of that and the billionares will have a fleet of yachts with the tax cuts we can give them.
Before the Constitution was enacted, each state had its own postage stamp and system. It nearly broke the country apart because of lack of communication. The US Postal Service was created to unite us. Say bye-bye to Christmas cards and birthday cards.
They privatised postal services in Australia and the UK, leading to user-side enshittification in the process despite some guardrails being kept in place. I shudder to think of what a US private equity fund takeover would do to the US postal service and the flow of low volume trade in America.
My friend was shocked when I explained to her that USPS delivers to every single address in America, including the ones all other private carriers do not. So unless people want to go to the store to pick up their shit, support USPS's door to door delivery service for a few cents.
Starve gov roles until they cannot function, swoop in with corporate solution. Make tons of $ on gov contracts=guaranteed unwilling customers (tax paying citizens)
As a civil servant I have been endlessly frustrated by people who believe government should be run like a business. We're not in it for money we're trying to make the world a better place.
I know too many people like this. They believe with every fiber of their being, that if it doesn’t make a profit, it should not exist.
Sadly, that includes people! If granny isn’t making a profit, and doesn’t have enough money to live off of, they don’t deserve to live. Makes me sick. 🤢
Maddow said tonight they appear to be backing off, now it’s more of a wishy-washy stance of ’we’re looking at it’ vs. a firm ‘we’re doing it’, but they could easily change course again. Also, if Trump were to take it over, you know he’d put his face on the stamps. 🤢🤮
They say the USPS should be a for-profit business, then bash the for-profit private sector for being corrupt. The GOP strategy of retarding the population is materializing quite nicely for the cult party.
It was at one time til Republicans in congress decided to force a resolution to compel the USPS to prefund some employee benefits for the next 75 years. When it had to comply it ceased making a profit. They did this so eventually they could say it was not profitable and should be privatized.
Which means? Privatize it. Correct? Maybe Musk or Bezos can buy it. They keep harping about wasteful government, spending and corruption - I’ve never seen more corruption than what goes on in the private sector! They all seem to be a bunch of selfish criminals
Benjamin Franklin must be rolling over in his grave.
The reason Gov't is NOT a business is because its mission is not to make a profit but to SERVE citizens using the money all have contributed through taxes. That's why we pay taxes...to pay for things we couldn't afford to purchase individually.
I wonder how many actually are in favor. It’s 250 years old. The idea of the crook doing a hostile takeover is repugnant. I don’t even know if it’s legal? But zi do know he poisons everything he touches,
Would you believe that there is a cohort of individuals who do not understand this, or do not believe that such a thing exists, or that attempts to operate in such a manner are immoral? They are the insane products of insane circumstances, but they are as influential as they are wrong.
Ben Franklin owned what would become the USPS, then ensured that it was ingrained in the Constitution as an institution that was intended to make a profit.
That said, it was also intended to expand as needed, as a foundation, but 250yr of progress is a lot.
This has been the fallacy of the right for decades. Government is a service. It is a bureaucracy by design. That is fundamental. It is big because the nation is big. It works. It is not designed to be for-profit. A business operates antithetically to the government. Any government.
Hi! Liberal here. My next door neighbor is our mailman. Has been with USPS for 30 years. Also a liberal. He said privatizing the USPS might save it. Can’t argue with that.
Trump regime takeover of the postal service is just about denying voters their rights to vote by mail. This regime are trying to take over our government with their NAZI ideals and beliefs.
They are tearing down the country. This is a war. It isn’t about saving money or making the US better. They are destroying it and half the unsupreme court are helping.

Private business will ALWAYS prefer profit over service.

FUCK LUEY D. JOY
so they'll be fucked twice lmao
Well, UPS and FEDEX are services and they make a profit.

The U.S. Postal Service
The Internal Revenue Service
The National Weather Service
The General Services Administration
The National Park Service
Almost like there’s a pattern or something
They are willing to trash a service to line their pockets.
It’s despicable as Trump will demolish the Postal Service as he did one business after the other and we will all suffer!

Courtesy of Thatch (privatisation in general, the concept. We've nothing left)
They’re morons. They have no concept about anything that matters.
FAFO apply applies here.
If a service cannot make Elon Musk profit, then it must be destroyed and recreated in a new fashion such that it can make Elon Musk profit.

The infrastructure is falling to bits and the shareholders allowed the companies to rack up huge debts to pay them billions in dividends.
Meanwhile, we the public have been royally screwed.
These things are there to do a job. If they may a surplus, great. If they don’t then that’s part of the cost of a well functioning civilized society.
What matters is consistently providing a good service to the public
GOP has never liked democracy and always fought to overthrow it
Do any of his own businesses make a profit?
Remember hospitals before they became FOR profit? They cared more about the patient's well-being rather than profit margins IMHO
Serves them right !

Clearly You aren't grasping that is a GOOD thing!
