I savor the irony that beneath the rhetoric of capitalism, free markets, and being anti-government, the MAGA movement is building a veritable state-run economy where businesses are under political control and direction.
But we have names for this. Monarchy. Sultanism. What else? What would be the pick of MAGA? I wonder sometimes. Cult of personality suggests sultanism. But I'm no expert.
Bonapartism comes to mind. Many similarities, but also differences. Similarities would be the mix of monarchical and republican elements, a weird coalition of upper and lower classes, the grandiose world politics (also Mexico, Middle East, all over Europe), the tacky aesthetics.

He and big pharma are f*<&ing bullying Australia (my fair home) to try and tariff away our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) which allows our government to keep medicine costs low for Australians. There are other tariffs (steel, aluminium etc.) but messing with the PBS will hurt all Australians.
The reduction in the value of the Canadian dollar from the trade war is going to make our exports the same price as before tarrifs. Long term US does not pay more but also pockets the tariffs. This holds true if the USD stays stable.

Instead of applying a 25% across the board tariff that would be easy to implement, the administration plans to apply tariffs individually to countries. The whole point is so that they can shake down each trading partner individually for favors. Perfect setup for graft.
