This whole business is bizarre. It was global oligarchs who sent the jobs overseas to begin with and Conservatives were fine with it because it helped keep rich people rich.
Were they just doing that until they could arrange slave labor in the US?
Lol who the fuck is gonna want to do that work ? Trump is stuck in the past. 100 years ago working the factories was a noble job and decent pay. But so MANY different avenues have opened since than. Nobody wants to work-8/10 hours in a hot/dusty ass factory. Thats not the american dream!
🧑🏼🌾 Who will do these jobs? Who is Labor Sec Lori Chavez-DeRemer referring to when she says “American Workers?” Will these workers earn $15 to $25 dollars an hour in an attempt at making a decent salary/living?
Not really true. All my jeans are from All American Clothing. Everything is sourced and assembled in the US. They’re better than Levi’s and run about $65
$65 is expensive for a pair of pants. Their T-shirts are $14. Polos are $65. I'm sure they are excellent quality. But people that can barely pay rent can't afford that. So, are we going to raise the min wage to $50/hr so they can buy at that price?
I guess there are really 3 or 4 “Americas” out there. My wife and I are not rich. We’re basically “working class”. I’m the guy who buys 2 pairs of jeans and wears them for 2 years. I’d rather have 3 $65 polos than 6 or 7 from Walmart
I guess the idea is that all the federal employees and other people who lose their jobs will be employed on much lower wages in these new “onshore” factories.
we’ll lose good paying jobs to AI, then the only jobs will be manual labor in sweatshops and factories. These companies are not going to lose profit - so high prices+low wages=lowered standard of living for us. Diabolical.
Brought to you by deep red states rolling back child labor laws. Who needs 7th grade when you can learn how to make shitty t shirts?? Get rid of education and sex ed. Get morons to pop out as many babies as possible, indoctrinate, stick em in a factory, blame the brown people, rinse & repeat.
Are we going to import the tailors, too? Even though they’d be immigrants? Because we don’t have enough skilled workers in that area to rival what they do.
I’m all for onshoring textiles, but domestic textiles will be more expensive, and there’s no way they will be broadly affordable prior to the country’s economy being completely destroyed.
Oh? So basically Remaking America to a third world country with low educated Americans working to feed their families in factories paying them little to nothing? FUCK THAT. RESIST.
All staff can quickly convert to line workers. The men will become more 'masculine' as they accumulate injuries & mental health challenges, while the women no doubt faint dead away at the exertion. They will then be transported to their home kitchens to make sammiches. Golden Age!
Isn't that the part of the story that all the "save the factory" people are missing? IF the manufacturing comes back on-shore, it would be using so much automation and tech that it's going to add a fraction of the jobs.
Have any of you been in a textile or garment plant in your lifetime? Good luck building or buying the right type of facility, wiring, plumbing and than training people to sew or run a bobbin. People won't work for less than average wages. Also most states do not want this type of gilded revolution.
So what?? You seriously believe every single corporation wasn’t behind NAFTA? Low wages, no OSHA, no work hour limitations, lower overhead. You believe they’ll all move back to the USA now?
Who is going to fill these low wage jobs? I don't know any American who is anxious to work in a "sweat factory". Non-citizen immigrants? They'll be in very short supply. These jobs unionize? We already know this administration is very anti-union and will fight. Doesn't seem like a winning formula.
Well, they're going to end any and all government assistance up to and including unemployment benefits. So when you lose your higher paying job, you can fuck your eyes out in a factory sewing bootleg Levi's together for 5 bucks an hour.
Except it will cost 2x what tariffed clothing from China & Vietnam costs because it's prohibitively expensive to produce garments here, even with prison labor! Hello, supplies? Infrastructure costs? Is anybody with a brain home?
Did President Convicted Felon authorize Labor Secretary 💩 for 🧠 to substantially lower wages here in the US that even a minimum wage worker making $7.25 an hour would refuse to work as suckers. Fuck Trump’s Tariffs. ABORT DOGE ride a Congressman. (202) 224-5274.
This will never happen. Even if companies were willing, it’d take years to build the infrastructure stateside. Americans won’t be patient and wait for that to happen. They’ll usher in massive change, including tariff reversal, sooner rather than later.
Building a garment factory, from initial planning to full operation, can take anywhere from 2 to 3 years for construction, and potentially up to 4-5 years including product approval.
OMG !
This is not reality.
Pie in the sky w/ no understanding.
It’s not just labor @ $.25/hr
Even with deregulation.
It’s never going to happen.
We have OSHA & different standards.
I’ve been there.
It was my business.
AI Automation 3-4 years out with a 10 year payback, w/a strong economy !
Will a middle or lower middle class person be able to purchase these garments? Person who currently has 10 shirts in the closet may only be able to buy 5 in the future.
With what infrastructure? Factories take more than a day to build and with the tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum new factories probably wont get built period.
And I guess the companies that spent tens of millions of dollars moving their facilities will just eat that cost and build a new factory in the USA so they can increase their production costs by an absurd percentage.
This shit is so dumb. You have to have a below freezing IQ to believe it.
And then as soon as they have the resources they need he puts the tariffs back on, Yeah we are going to trade with the u.s. but don't expect it to ever be like it was again.
To make his manufacturing vision reality Trump is closing the doors on libraries, the arts and higher education. If we are a third world country we will be grateful for low pay manufacturing jobs to support the 1%.
😳 My aunt died with COPD and terrible mangled arthritic hands, both she attributed to working in a textile factory in Kentucky. MAGA= $100 T-shirts, low paying jobs, bad working conditions, and sick workers. WTF These people have lost their minds.
So the people that can least afford it pay more for their clothing. How many years will it take to “ onshore” factories, and who will work in them, immigrants?
The American worker wouldn’t work at the factory job for minimum wage cause they can’t afford to live off minimum wage, yet alone get paid less, only Pennie’s a day like other country’s to compete. Our shirts would be $100 each or more in order for Americans to have a livable wage, good luck.
True. That’s what they don’t want the American people to know how they’ll pay for it. I still think that’s a form of slavery that should be illegal, criminal or not. It’s one thing to volunteer, another to be forced.
A Vietnam garment worker makes $200-$250 USD/month. At $7.35 minimum hourly wage, a U.S. worker makes around $1200/month. Explain to me like I'm a moron how the math works. And BTW...nobody is going to do that crappy job for $7.35/hour. Except undocumented immigrants, but they'll all be gone.
Well, when you remember he'll abolish child labor laws, construction regulations, OSHA, and the EPA, you suddenly have a level playing field. Those $2 t-shirts can be made in Alabama now!
Hmm and I guess we have to weave the fabric, make the thread to sew the garments, create the dye and make all the parts for the sewing machines in order to avoid any tariffs and be 100% American made.
If Trump and Administration put Tariff on everything to bring Manufacture & Jobs back to USA, are them, CEO & US Companies going raise the Wages and Pay more, or they will pay the same minimum pay wages that other foreign countries pay to their Workers and US Comsumer will pay less in USA???
She's talking about "upskilling" workers to making tee-shirts in the garment industry? Oh yeah, that'll work. What are they expected to do in the meantime? Nothing? Because also, too: the Rs expect anyone receiving any type of benefit to work for it...
Plantation mentality. (Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster—where Ivanka’s mother is buried—much?)
Or maybe he just wants to reenact the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire?
Anyone who wants strictly buy American made products can do so already, they'll just have to pay more for it. It's stupid to destroy the global economy for an idea that will clearly not work but end up decimate the same people they claim to care about.
Really? There are no doubt just dozens of empty textile-producing factories across the US just WAITING for the chance to spring into production! Just . . . waiting . . . to spring . . . Using all that American-grown cotton, wool, linen, . . . um. Hm. Or cheap polyester, microfiber, acrylic, . . .

This is who worked in the garment factories last time.🤬
Someone’s brain is churning on getting those trapped by ICE & border patrol into a prison industry

It'll cost companies millions of dollars, they won't see an increase in profit - there's zero reason for them to do it.
who wants s to sit at a sewing machine 10 hrs a day for sub-minimum wage.

logic & basic math and MAGA have a really rocky relationship.
And more workplace deaths.
And poisoned food and drink.
And less benefits at your job.
And more kids working, often dangerous jobs.
And banks that close and take your money constantly.
Sorry for the rant!
Anyone ready for $800-1000 Nikes?
Cheapest men's jeans $65, most $80.

Id love to wear American vs Chinese clothes too but
Hence why undoc people often times are the ones working those jobs
The U.S. does not have enough high-skilled garment manufacturing workers to support large-scale, competitive garment production domestically.
There’s so much stupid, I can’t believe it
What about DEI for underage child labor? Is minimum wage a factor as well?! Is Child Labor Unions going to be set up in Florida? 🤷🤦
Doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it.
You'll get cheap factories pop up all over with no regulation within a year. Massive environmental and fire hazards. And people will die.

No. No. Give them a minute. They'll figure it out >
They'll still get the high-paying jobs. These $2/hour jobs will be perfect for women.
Make American Gradeschoolers Automotons
FUCK REPUBLICANS!
Typical Republican .
Where are you going to get workers willing to be paid pennies a day to work in these garment "sweat shops"?
Or do you think Americans are willing to pay $500.00 for an $80.00 pair of jeans?
I mean, sure, some people will...
But not enough to make it profitable for the manufacturers
Or maybe he just wants to reenact the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire?
We love cheap stuff. It's as simple as that.
