do you have any recommendations on which sort of playstyle the game supports best? (in Pillars i always went for Cipher because it was a fun character to micro — you'd never run out of resources so you could always be doing something important for trying to optimize recharging for the next big move)

Gun ranger works of course.

I've also enjoyed dual wielding a pistol and sword and focusing on dodging and stuff.

But full mage is fun and once I discovered how to infinitely heal and regain magic by cycling siphon magic and then creating a staff to murder people with its been fun to go all in on.

I’ve been running with my usual guns/bows ranger build, which seems to work fine, but the magic tree looks a lot more diverse in terms of actual abilities.

my biggest complaint mechanically is that intelligence not making AOEs bigger makes INT a bit of a dump stat, the only reason to get it is if you want the smart people dialogue options

oh, that's a (small) bummer. the way Pillars had the two circles — the "everyone gets hit circle" and then the "only baddies get hit" circle, and only the 2nd one got bigger with intelligence — was a really clever design.

Yeah int definitely feels like a dump stat I put points in for dialogue reasons for my basically full wizard.
