🚨Jailed whistleblower David McBride says he has faced threats in Canberra prison - ABC News. It is an absolute stain on the Albanese govt and Attorney General that whistleblower protections have not yet been introduced. #integrity #auspol

Mark Dreyfus has been a huge disappointment. I had so much faith in him to clean things up. But the alternative on the other side is just abominable !!
He’s not a whistleblower- he literally thought that we shouldn’t be investigating our rogue soldiers for shooting civilians. He only changed his tune when he was arrested.
Sorry but you are quite incorrect. After the war crimes of BRS et al were ignored, the ADF came down hard on people who hadn't committed war crimes making them scapegoats. He also argued senior commanders knew and did nothing. It was the hypocrisy that was behind his leaking.
Lisa, read the full coverage of this guy. He really did think that BRS et al shouldn’t be investigated. It’s all available in coverage on ABC and Crikey. He changed his tune when he realised he’d broken the law.
The ABC journo sold him out. I've read his book and independent jounos like Michael West have interviewed him extensively. He doesn't fit the traditional mold but without his docs we would know nothing. Interesting how no one has been charged for war crimes, and they never will be.
They’re still actively investigating the war crimes so I don’t think we can say no one will be charged with war crimes as yet. And Crikey is an independent outlet known for its absolute transparency so maybe look at their coverage of the issue. It’s extensive and detailed.
In the same way many mainstream journos refused to recognise Julian Assange as a journalist, most mainstream journos have been disinterested in the full story of David McBride. We can agree to disagree.
But also many improvements. One that gets little attention, but is helping thousands of people every day - the Urgent Care Clinics which are fully bulk billed, and taking the pressure off hospital Emergency Depts.
Agree lots not everything is what I'd like to see them doing, but you can't really discount the good things they have done as "maybe they did some good things".
I too lived in Liberal electorates for over 30 years, and have moved to Victoria. Not involved in politics here but it's still nice to know the Libs here are so ineffectual.
But the alternative is so much worse. Another 10+ teal type independents (taken off LNP seats) could be workable and smarten them up, and stiffen their spine.
They never will be. The two party system represents the existing power status quo. Australians worked it out a while ago. Just that some Australians think it's better to stick with the devil you know. And hope that system never takes an interest in them.
Dave asked me to thank you for your support today Zali. He is focused on the whistleblower laws being fixed and once they are fixed, he welcomes the establishment of an authority. Broken laws first and foremost!
Dreyfus has failed to represent the interests of ordinary citizens. With the NACC and the ‘whistleblower protection’ legislation.
His only interest is protecting those in power
And worse when you read former ACT chief minister who instigated the Alexander Maconochie centre as a non punitive rehab centre, not intended for whistleblowers, is not impressed.
What happened to this country?
A warning for future whistleblowers, a form of legal terrorism really.
Note that the lawbreakers aren't in prison, so you know where the priorities are.
Coalition failed but Labor's timidity & failure on major issues including but not limited to AUKUS, COVID, NACC, transparency & accountability, gambling ads, whistle-blower protection & climate change has permanently turned off supporters who wanted significant & positive change.
Go independents
This ruling seems to assume the general public should be skilled, qualified investigators/detectives in how they go about disclosing genuine high suspicion concerns. Then they could get penalised for that on the basis its breaching other laws to develop/produce firm evidence to be submitted ?
Yes it is, especially when Dreyfus et al particularly told us it would be their priority. No one should be punished for exposing corrupt or heinous behaviour.
So many good people, never seen by the public, are punished for exposing extremely bad behaviour of people in authority.
Come on Attorney General Mark Dreyfus, Being an Honourable,Ethical,Honest, individual who exposes wrong doing and corruption should be lauded,Not treated as a criminals. Little wonder people are loosing trust in the fundamental political structures of our society.

And many broken promises.
And many stupid ideas.
Such a disappointing Government.
But I live in a Liberal electorate which offends me ..
But you can’t get a bulk bill Dr around here. But I can live with that, other things need priority.
This ALP govt will be seen by history as weak, timid & as neoliberal as the LNP.
Families are lined up at our local food bank daily
And that is a monumental failure among other things
The COL crisis is about to destroy the ALP
It’s not all about interest rates, it’s energy & corporate price gouging
Which the ALP could fix with regulation
His only interest is protecting those in power
