Finest traditions of firefighting. In the good old days* of privatised firefighting, firefighters earned money by visiting houses and pointing out thr flammable bits and suggesting it would be a shame if it all burned down and wouldn't they like a nice insurance policy.
Although... If the fire service is underfunded (which it is) and firefighters are underpaid (which they are) to do an incredibly dangerous job, the wording seems kind of apt if not terribly palatable.
When critical emergency services are underfunded, people tend to get hurt.
One day Labour will learn that unions are not their friend. Members pay union dues to get them pay increases from who ever holds the purse strings. Public sector unions will not give Labour an easy ride, they shouldn't expect this.
