That specific thing is available for a reasonable price from the big river, but I'd love to see other options--maybe ones with more shelves, or bigger ones.

Anyone know about such things?

Interesting thought, but I don't know if it would help with the goal of "store more books in a volume of space, with them all still being easily accessible".

If I could find a system like that where the shelves were exactly 2 books wide, it might work...

Have you thought about 'double depth' bookshelves or bookcases? Half the height will give you the same capacity and leave walls clear for pictures if you want them. Full height gives you double the capacity (although half your books will not be visible.

I've thought about it, and looked approvingly on stuff like the link below, but I have around 80 full-height bookcases now, so I'm looking for things that aren't fully custom-built.

If you know of a "dual layer, sliding ones in front" system that's not a custom build, I'd love to hear about it.

Well, I have almost all of the fiction in database, and that's around 12K books. That's about half the bookcases, so somewhere around 24K volumes? (Maybe a bit less, since three of the bookcases aren't currently holding books.)

You art comments have opened up a whole other range of thinking, since my ongoing acquisition of shelves has forced more and more of my art off the walls. My collections war for perimeter, but perhaps if I'm willing to forgo the "stand in the middle of the room & see it all" thing that might lessen.

The best bookcases I've ever seen were in the late Peter Joliffe's Bloomsbury bookshop, Ulysses. Never found out who built and installed them. Can't say I much like the look of the bookshelves in the link you provided. They don't look shabbily alive - just efficient storage solutions.

Honestly my derangement prefers all the shelves being visible, but I passed the "out of perimeter" thing a while back. Then I put in "stacks" in some rooms, but now I'm kind of up against it again, so "everything easily accessible on the right shelf" is beating out "can see them all, all the time".
