39/ VERY IMPORTANT: we need to quickly normalize the idea that immigrants are people who make mistakes and resist the hard-right labeling of anyone who has ever been arrested as a "criminal." People are far more beautiful and complicated than that

I'd have to know a lot more about an application to give any specific advice about it but generally speaking the chances are zero that USCIS is going to start randomly canceling or arbitrarily denying applications without due process. I meant it about them being the immigration deep state!
That puts my mind at ease. Green card application from an H1B visa from a university STEM department and we are almost at the last step. Not even a speed ticket on my name. Thank you for the answer ❤️
40/ One more very important action item! Along with finding a lawyer you can trust, one thing anyone who was not born a US citizen can do now is FOIA a digitized copy of their complete immigration file. It will take a few months to come in but it is free and easy here:

This is SO valuable. Thank you for sharing it!
As a Canadian, it's heartbreaking to see so many Americans eagerly leaping into the gnashing jaws of fascism that their grandfathers fought & died to keep them safe from.
Canada's border policy hasn't been great for "casual" immigration, by which…

…to come from SOME privilege. But we make broad exceptions for refugees seeking asylum with a "well-founded fear of persecution."
That used to mean resettled Yazidis, survivors of Daesh, Amharas from Ethiopia…but Trump's plans for migrants AND over half of US citizens (🚺🏳️⚧️🕌) meet that threshold.
Thanks! Just seeing this, but fyi I recently wrote this up for The New Republic.
Also OA is a general-interest podcast in which we do our best to explain law in the news. Most of our audience are not lawyers, and we cover just about everything. Ty for your interest!
no, it's a totally routine thing and processed by a special unit in USCIS which wouldn't ever be communicating with ICE. For people who are extra concerned you can always have a lawyer do it on your behalf but FOIA is your absolute right and there are all kinds of reasons that people do these

Our "priority pathways" are listed here, if anyone wants to see what their chances are:

The "standard" immigration policies definitely require folks…

Excellent information, I'm sure we all know at least one person who may be vulnerable.
Will the Opening Arguments podcast be mainly for lawyers or will it be for immigration advocates?
SO grateful for your prioritization for risks. Incredibly helpful info.
