That thing where I love seeing people strive to do their best, and know it's good to play sports as a child for exercise and team work skills.

It's arguably worse because a lot of it isn't even actually about the sports, it's about the sports as means of qualifying for limited higher education slots at prestigious universities and/or scholarships as class signifier/route to success.
