Parents are in control of which books their own children read - if you don't like one of the thousands they have that are on the shelves of our public libraries, put it back and choose another! Pretty simple concept. #FreedomtoRead #RighttoRead

It's not about parents being in control of what their own kids read. It's about them being in control of what other parents' kids read. They don't want the ideas out.
In every banned book there is an idea that threatens them.
Guess that means these parents don't trust that their indoctrination has worked. #TexasHB900 is legislative proof that parents don't trust the "values" they have "imparted" to their children have taken root.
Well said Debbie! Parents, grandparents, great-grandparents choose good paperbacks like 'A Puppy's Tale by Rex', written by a grandma, pictures by a schoolboy, fab #intergen partners! https://www.amazon.com/dp/1526208687
Do school libraries still have National Graphic in school libraries? When I was school they didn’t ban books because they wanted us to have a real world view. Not anymore. Young people have to learn from ignorant, single minded, biased parents.
Facts!! As a children’s book author I receive a lot of opinions on my books, just from the title alone! (I’m The Boss Of Me) At events I’ll have someone walk by & say, “not in my house EVER!” w/ a snarl instead of opening & reading to see they are about teaching responsibility to kids. Frustrating!!
Sounds like a good book. I’ll grab a copy to read to my kids (one of them has issues with controlling their body sometimes and tries to blame others for it)
Censoring or banning books leads to dangerous consequences, as history shows.
As parent, we need to be involved in the decision making of what our children are exposed to in books and media
We cannot allow the government to take away the right of parental choice.
I’m not sure if all libraries are like this, but the library in my town, the Coastal Library of Walton County, won’t even let you do anything without a library card, and you can’t get a library card without a parents permission if you’re under 18. Yet, there are still 58 banned books (1)
in Walton County, Florida. (Most of the books banned have to do with minorities, I think, I’m assuming based off the cover since I haven’t read or heard of any of these books before looking them up besides “Fifty Shades of Grey.”) (2)
We literally lived next to our small-town library. Our kids treated it like a second family. 35 years later the head librarian still asks how they are doing. I always said "Read. Sort out anything that bothers you after you finish it."
That was how we found Pete The Cat books. Literally just picked one and it was Pete The Cat! When my daughter was little we would sing the songs from the book at the dinner table. Great times!
My parents never controlled what I read. I went to the library from a very young age and from 9 walked there alone bringing back my choices. Got access to the adult library by 13. (MA. Oxon- English)
My parents also let me read whatever I wanted. They had a lot of books in the house too and some were had pretty challenging content for a kid. If they saw me reading something I might not have been technically mature enough for, they’d say “come talk to me if you have any questions about that”.
Looking at this from across the Pond (the Netherlands to be exact), it is worrying indeed. Our oldest generaties remembers an occupation force that acted much the same. Chilling thought.

Youre entering into the realms of common sense.
The person told her how to set up parental controls to prevent her kids from watching them.
Her response was, "I'm not worried about my kids watching them. I'm worried about my neighbors."

Side note where the hell is the asterisk on phones now??
