Quite possibly but the first step in diplomacy is always to open a discussion. If it goes down hill after that then at least Carney did his due diligence by making an effort.
so transparent: trump restraining himself so he can later attack carney as so much 'easier to work with' than that scary canadian patriot, pierre polienever. barf.
The release looks suspiciously close to Carney selling out Canada. We already have such agreements. This, despite the spin, is a loss for Carney and Canadians. Was going to vote Liberal, now I'm not so sure. No different than the Cons. Very disappointing
Negotiating AFTER the election, when we already have agreements, is deeply troubling. Is supply management on the table? What about soft wood lumber? It is all very concerning.
You can very much say, for instance, supply management is off the table. The Liberal surge is based almost entirely on progressive voters like me, who traditionally vote NDP or go back and forth. Today's rhetoric suggests the independence from the US we are looking for is no longer the Liberal plan.
Power and Politics has covered this quite well. Canada can't instantly change supply chains and manufacture things here. This buys us more time to work on that while hopefully not tanking our economy. I could be wrong but I didn't read that statement as giving in to the States.
I think Trump is hedging his bets that he will be dealing with PP in a month’s time and that he and Musk will do everything they can to make that happen
"I ran the Bank of Canada. You ran casinos into the ground. Your tariffs are an empty threat, and I will call your bluff in front of the entire planet, in 4K. Now fuck outta my face, I've got a country to run"
CBC had an article today where they spoke to some Washington insiders who said Carneys comments on the relationship with the US being broken surprised people in DC and now they are realizing the damage they are doing.
Wonder if that's true, and if it is, how could they have been so dumb?
I am reading this first full "about-face" in terms of language as a bad sign. I don't think this call went AT ALL as it is being presented on either side.
He has been holding out his finger at our nose, saying 🎵"I'm not touching you!"🎵 daring us, anyone to hit him. I am wondering if Carney "hit" him
I get the feeling that Trump at the very (VERY) least respects Carney because he knows economics and money so well. We'll see how long it lasts, but I'm super impressed with how Carney is handling the situation so far (not bending the knee, waiting for Trump to call him, etc)
Comments
Very different tone from what we saw from his posts about Trudeau.
He called him “prime minister” and not “governor” for one.
*flicks a cigarette in Trump's eye*
-Mark Carney
Polls indicate that, but there are a few weeks to go, guys.
No Gov
No 51st
No cherished nuts
I'm saddened by the size of Trumps balls
Here I thought he was a tough guy
How do the USAliens square that semi civilized tone
Anyway too little too late!
What a wimpy baby or maybe the Adderall hadn't kicked in
We'll see by 4am
