There was a court case saying essentially that if you advertise it as haunted for, like, ghost tours, then it's haunted as a matter of law. In states where you've got to disclose things people would want to know, that counts. It's pretty funny.
My definition of magical realism is that the magical elements do not affect the plot. So it’s urban fantasy if the ghosts are stiffing cab drivers, but magical realism if they pay, same as everyone else.
It's happening in Japan too, after the 2012 disaster there have been multiple phantom passanger reports. The Unsolved Mystery reboot touches on it in S2 iirc 💚
