as the rollercoaster crests the top of the initial incline, the ratcheting noise slows and stops, and you can, right before the plunge, observe the entire amusement park

The majority of us, who really like our amusement park, are currently standing still and holding our collective breath, in order to see which way, and how far, those cars go careening into the crowd.
Also at Cedar point is the Skyride, giving you the same view as the top of the rollercoaster, but calmly transports you to the center of the park. You can survey attractions and strategize before descending into the park from a calm height removed from the midway.
Well, this view is terrifying and I didn’t even want to go on this ride I didn’t even want to enter this park . I wanted to go to a different amusement park. I don’t want to be on the ride.😭
Now it’s up to us to decide; do we raise our hands in the air and embrace the feeling of the wind in our hair while our stomachs drop, or do we close our eyes and hang on for dear life while praying for it all to just end.
The last rollercoaster for me was the Joker at Magic Mountain. Just a few years later, I had triple bypass surgery that disqualifies me from another ride. Joker was an inverted coaster with plenty of loops.
This is the point on the roller coaster where you question your sanity in wanting to go at all. And then you realize you’re with a group of idiots who have dragged you along with them for this fucked up ride.
... a chill wind blasts as the cars begin to move, the sound of hammering and saws blend with heavy equipment. The camps are breaking the plane, they stretch as far as the eye can see. There is no amusement left in the park.
But it's all tiny and the details are impossible to make out.
Soon, it'll be right in our faces, rushing by, and we won't be able to grasp any one item.
Just like last time.
This feels like that time I was on a rollercoaster and it started going BANG BANG BANG BANG as it was about to reach the top, I could see the ride op sprinting across to the control panel thing out of the corner of my eye, but he didn’t get there in time to stop it.
I'm down with it! Ban META and X and Instagram and Threads usage from January 19-26. If possible leave them altogether and go to an alternative like Blue Sky (my favorite).
Monday, January 20, 2025, is Martin Luther King Day and that is the great American I will be remembering and honoring. I will make my profile picture his portrait in his honor. I will make my FB profile banner one of his quotes. I have a dream, too.
Now THAT is a truly terrifying but absolutely relevant thought!

For a second at the top, you catch your breath, before plunging down and then up again, over and over until the car lurches to a stop. You open your eyes and resume normal breathing. You are off the ride but still in the park. How do we navigate this amusement park? One determined step at a time.🫣
If you're in one of the front cars, you reach the crest and start creeping slowly over it while the rest of the train is still ratcheting up behind you. You're hanging there, staring down the dramatic drop ahead of you, knowing exactly what's coming and powerless to do anything but hold on.
Though to correct myself, the rollback was on a launch coaster, while the original post is about a more traditional lift and drop .. so actually, nope you were right.
That’s exactly what today feels like. I hate roller coasters and the awful feeling of I’m about to barf. But the seconds before the plunge, seeing all around, is usually a beautiful thing, but today it’s full of fear of never seeing the beauty again.

Made me want to cry though… partly because I’m terrified, and partly because I know I’m not alone on this ride.
At all.
In fact, there are cameras cleverly positioned to capture the faces of ALL riders.
Soon, it'll be right in our faces, rushing by, and we won't be able to grasp any one item.

Uh-oh.

I hope you can find as much healing and peace as is possible as we navigate through this mess.
And we've all met Marenko now
